Dean and Phil begin this week’s show by wrapping up DragonCon, sharing some of their more bizarre, amusing and inspiring experiences. They then welcome a very special guest for the first part of a two-part interview. Vince Gilligan was one of the most prolific and respected writers and producers on The X-Files (as well as its spin-off series, The Lone Gunmen). He wrote the motion pictures Wilder Napalm, Home Fries and Hancock. Now, he’s earning great accolades for his work on the AMC original series Breaking Bad, which he created.
That’s a hell of a lot of show for one hour, but what do you expect? This IS your Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

Always great to hear from Vince Gilligan. “Everything I learnt about making TV I learnt it on the X-Files”, well seeing how well he does running his own show he has learnt a lot!
“self-burglaralization” now that’s a good script-writer’s term!
Re: AMC: I haven’t checked Mad Men yet (sounds like another Sopranos, ie rich people eating and having psychosexual problems), but Breaking Bad is without a doubt one of the best series airing right now! Especially since THE WIRE ended (bless you Phil for mentioning that, even fleetingly!).
It’s revolting that the creative team gets no revenue from the DVDs!! That was not the case with VHS either? The WGA writer’s strike was more than justified then! (not that it resolved enough stuff but still)
