Chillpak Hollywood Hour #318

Think quick: What show covers such a wide range of topics as UFO disclosure, Bill Clinton, Fox Entertainment’s internship problem, Star Trek Into Darkness, Vince Vaughn, Robert Redford, the future of movie ticket pricing, the disappearance of women on-screen in film, a speakeasy in Culver City and Paranoia Con?

Here’s a hint: You’re reading about it right now!

It’s the latest installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #317

It’s been a big week here in Los Angeles for your friends in podcasting.

Dean Haglund performed in a benefit for Chris Bonno, reviewed a documentary about a 1970′s punk band from Detroit, and is appearing this Saturday at a UFO Society event in Santa Monica!

Phil Leirness filmed a project with Hollywood legends John Saxon and Mariette Hartley, attended “A Prairie Home Companion”, a live cowboy poetry event, and went to see Iron Man 3.

Hear all about that as well as the deaths of a Broadway and television legend and an up-and-coming Bollywood Star, the latest mass gun shooting, the rumors circulating around a powerful show business columnist and the bizarre stories coming out of the Michael Jackson wrongful death lawsuit.

Stop reading and enjoy it. Now and forever.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #316

Chris Bonno is an accomplished actor, comic and artist.

He has been friends with Dean Haglund for a long time, he’s been a good friend to YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and he’s finally a guest, joining Dean and Phil for one of their funniest episodes EVER.

This installment also marks the introduction of the mysterious Dr. Castoreum

Learn all about Chris at his official site and check out his amazing art work at Shea Magazine.

And now, let the hilarity begin!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #315

We hope everyone in the USA had a great Memorial Day, and that the rest of the world enjoyed Monday.

It was quite a trial getting this episode to you as several wordpress sites on several different servers were under attack. No attack can silence your friends in podcasting for long, however, and this week, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness are on fire!

They discuss several “Live Events of the Week”, including a forthcoming Live Event Dean and Phil will be attending – Paranoia Con in San Diego (July 19-21), sponsored by Paranoia Magazine. And while they’re on the topic of San Diego, they discuss a very cool UFO sighting that took place recently at the haunted Edgemoor Barn in Santee.

They analyze the glut of apocalyptic-themed films as well as the mad dash to remake or reboot every 1960′s spy show.

They “trek” back Into Darkness, examining the conspiracy theories contained in Star Trek Into Darkness and the lack of good roles for women in the film, as well as the precedent-setting endorsement battle that’s taking place as a result of the film’s stars Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy doing a short film for Audi.

This leads to the topic of product placement as it pertains to their very own The Lady Killers.

All that, plus Judy Garland is appreciated, a rock legend is remembered, and a good fight is won in Portland, Oregon.

Full of riotous humor, inspiring insight, and “Brechtian existential musings”, it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Enjoy.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #314

The show begins with selections from a rather hilarious Skype conversation between Phil Leirness and March Hershon of Succotash.

Following the theme song, Dean Haglund is back, and tells of his whirlwind, speeding-ticket-filled road trip to Winnipeg and back.

Violence prevention is very much on the mind of Phil, as he participated in a gang violence “interruption” on Saturday night. He talks about that and the short film Flawless.

Mostly, though, movies are what your friends in podcasting really want to talk about, from the role of critics, to the resurrection of Harrison Ford, to the post-apocalypse bandwagon, to the lack of roles for women, to the work of Stanley Kubrick, to the latest installment of Star Trek.

All this week, on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour …

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #313

Dean Haglund drove to Winnipeg last week to be with his father, who was getting out of the hospital, so we certainly want to send all our best wishes to both these fine gentlemen.

Because Dean had no way of knowing how long we will be away from a certain “historic building in downtown Los Angeles”, he made sure to record a couple very special podcasts before he left.

Year 7 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour begins with one of these episodes.

Yi Tian is an actress and model who hosts both the Actors E Chat Show and Hello! Hollywood, which airs on 35 networks in China.

A native of Beijing, Yi earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas and was supposed to become a software engineer upon her graduation. As fate would have it, however, she was discovered by a talent agent and was convinced to take up acting. She is currently filming the science fiction thriller Patriot Act and she will soon be playing the first character introduced in Dean and Phil’s dark comedy The Lady Killers, a character responsible for establishing the film’s constantly surprising tone.

Back in November of 2011, Yi actually interviewed your friends in podcasting for the web-based chat show Actors E. You can check out that episode here. This week, the tables are finally turned!

Given Yi Tian’s following in China, I think it’s safe to say that not since Wham! toured that country in the mid-1980′s have two more goofy white guys taken China by storm the way Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness will this week, on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #312

What do Marc Hershon, Succotash, Patrick McGoohan, The Prisoner, Sci Fi on the Rock, Jackalope Radio, The Talk Superstation, The Verable Pooh, aspect ratios, symbolism, The Truth Is Out There, Dr. Rita Louise, Man-Made: The Chronicles of Our Extraterrestrial Gods, the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, David Hodrien, the Birmingham UFO Group, likeness rights, a new “X-Files” comic book, Kickstarter, Zach Braff, Page Branson, Jafar Panahi, This is Not a Film and Empire State Gas all have in common?

They are all a part of the 6th Anniversary Episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Since May of 2007, for 312 consecutive weeks, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness have been changing the way people listen to the internet.

Why don’t YOU help your friends in podcasting celebrate by catching up on recent episodes you might have missed and by turning someone new onto YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour?

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #311

Next week, your friends in podcasting celebrate six years of changing the way people listen to the internet. THIS week, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness welcome their final guest of year six …

The beautiful, talented and genuinely odd Stephanie Erb made her big-screen debut for legendary director Peter Weir in Fearless and has appeared in such films as Starship Troopers, The Ring and Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Stephanie made her television debut on Star Trek: The Next Generation and has since played recurring roles on such series as Weeds, 24, Freaks and Geeks, Port Charles and True Blood.

She is a frequent contributor to Ethan Dettenmaier’s Combat Radio and will soon be appearing in Dean and Phil’s new movie The Lady Killers.

And what about those rumors that Miss Erb may someday be replacing Phil Leirness as co-host of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour?

Listen and find out!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #310

Dean and Phil weigh in on the Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath.

Dean and Phil respond to two emails from listeners (one dealing with Robert Maplethorpe and one dealing with the role of the audience in art).

Dean and Phil remember a comedic genius and a game-changing artist, both of whom died in the past week.

Dean and Phil will continue their on-again, off-again debate on the craft of acting, and join together in singing the praises of the great Walter Matthau.

All that, plus a Live Event of the Week, and a running time of an hour AND four minutes …

It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour (and four minutes) with Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #309

Rob Simone goes way back with Dean Haglund. He’s a great guy and a good friend to both Dean and Phil. He makes an indelible contribution to their film The Truth Is Out There. He is an author, the host of The Rob Simone Talk Show and frequent guest host of Coast to Coast AM.

On this week’s show, the tables are turned and Rob becomes the interview subject.

Hear all about how we was turned onto the magic of radio at an early age and how he was inspired by the legendary Art Bell.

Hear about his involvement in the UFO disclosure movement.

Hear about the adventures in broadcasting that took Rob from Sedona, Arizona, to rural Australia to London, England and now, to YOU.

And hear about a wide range of mysterious subjects from asteroids to the hollow Earth theory to Black Eyed Children …

Hilarious, intriguing, irreverent and inspiring, it’s another top-notch installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!
