So do you think because I never saw Apocalypse Now, Star Wars or Blade Runner in 3-D, HD, or Blu-Ray, nor in THX Surround Sound that I didn’t really experience those movies? That I missed part of the plot, couldn’t optically grasp several of the characters, and totally missed and misinterpreted over half of the movies’ themes, ideas, and meanings? As a matter of fact, every person who ever saw every movie pre-THX, pre-HD, pre-Blu-Ray, and pre 3-D, must have just wasted their time because really all their experience was like is akin to is watching a black and white television set with binoculars, wearing earplugs. If it wasn’t for George Lucas and James Cameron, the ‘movie business’ would have never taken off, and would have remained an antique novelty long forgotten and whispered about in the far reaches of the internets. You haven’t seen Apocalypse Now until you’ve seen it in the original ‘broadcast on black & white cathode ray television.’ I once had the fortune to watch Star Wars in black and white on 8mm film, and it was quite surreal and gritty. You might ask yourself, why would anyone EVER watch ANYTHING on VHS EVER AGAIN, and well, I suppose its one of those luxuries that can be indulged like dining on frozen Wooly Mamoth meat, or eating bread made from ancient egyptian grain, or smoking 30 year old cigarettes, or drinking vintage wines. I know, someday it will be illegal to own a VCR, like incandescent lightbulbs, but dammit, watching old cassettes you recorded when you were 11 is an altered state you cannot pay enough money to duplicate.
