    If you get accused of being a wingnut to your face here’s a fun way to reply:

    ” Ahhh…. I see your suffering from the Semmelweis Effect…!!!” first show a flash of horror, then disgust follow by nodding condolence as you continue;

    “Research has shown its passed down through families, organisations and sometimes even business associates. I hope you can get over it one day…. ”

    walk away nodding your head in sadness.

  • Linda:

    Great background sounds of dogs having dinner and drinking? LOL

    Your explanation of changing demographics was fascinating, but the repeated assertion that young men are “disappearing” (even citing their decreasing numbers in the population as a whole, not just as a target market) is misleading. An entire age/gender segment isn’t suddenly dropping off the face of the earth; we all get that.

    The real issue is of course that if fewer young men are paying to see movies, the film industry has to start noticing that other people exist. It’s not that their only audience is disappearing; it’s that they’ll now be forced to acknowledge that young men are not their only audience, and maybe the rest of us would like (and even pay!) to see things in popular culture that appeal to our interests too.

    As convenient soundbites go, “Disappearance of Young Men” is about as accurate and helpful as “War on Christmas”.
