Chillpak Hollywood Hour #402

How great a year in film was 2014? So great that neither Dean nor Phil managed to find room on their Top Ten Lists for the likes of such highly recommended features as Selma, Inherent Vice, The Babadook, CitizenFour or Calvary.

What DID make their lists? Listen to the episode (all 72 minutes of it!) and find out!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #291

The importance of telling stories that encourage young women to find and use their authentic voices …

In short, if you’d boo this episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, you’d boo Santa Claus!

Finally, we hope you’ll take the time to check out Dean and Phil’s latest feature film project and learn how you can help!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #247

Anywhere from 6%-10% of the U.S. workforce might be calling in sick on the Monday after the Super Bowl, but not your friends in podcasting … Even if they wanted to, there’s way too much to discuss, from the eleven show biz personages who are remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” to the Tony-winning play that constitutes the “Live Event of the Week”, from Liam Neeson kicking nature’s ass to smuggling being depicted as a victimless crime, from promising sci-fi films in development to the man who claims Fox stole his life story through wiretapped phone conversations (YOUR “Lawsuit of the Week”), Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness don’t even get to everything they hoped to discuss. There’s THAT MUCH going on inside YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour #247.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #246

It’s an annual Chillpak Hollywood Hour event as your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, offer up their respective top ten lists of the best films of the previous year.

It’s also our longest show ever – YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour with 25% more hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #217

After four weeks of special guests (i.e. pre-recorded shows!), your friends in podcasting are finally together again, tackling such topics as Casey Anthony, O.J. Simpson, Charleston, Detroit, Peter Falk, Tolstoy, history, Delta Airlines, Continental, Manchester Airport, immersive theatre, Premium seating, Transformers 3, Pirates 4, America vs. the world, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, The Green Lantern, Super 8, Washington, D.C. … It’s action-packed, hilarious, irreverent and insightful Haglund and Leirness with a vengeance on this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

And for those of you in Southern California, make sure to get your tickets to the Los Angeles Premiere of THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! There’s two nights to choose from. Full event details and tickets are available: HERE.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #211

It’s Memorial Day here in the U.S., a day for remembering those who died in service to their country. Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness spend a few minutes talking about the meaning of the day before putting the “your” in YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour … They debate the merits, approach and achievements of David Lynch because a loyal listener wanted them to … They discuss the art and craft of casting directors because a loyal listener wanted them to … They examine the box office successes of three current comedy films and what that success says about the culture (and times) in which we live AND they take time to remember Gil Scott-Heron and Jeff Conaway, both of whom died this past week. All this from the Broadway gallery of artist Dean Haglund in downtown Los Angeles!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #150

The Thelma and Louise of podcasting are out the door to Arizona, where they’ll be interviewing physicist Bill Tiller for their documentary The Truth Is Out There before bum-rushing the University of Arizona’s consciousness lab in Tucson hoping to learn about something called The SOPHIA Project. Before they go, they’re giving reports on such disparate films as Hot Tub Time Machine, The Ghost Writer, and 1962’s Burn, Witch, Burn! Also, Lily Holleman’s acceptance speech while receiving the Method Fest’s Rising Star award and the death of Robert Culp both inspire Dean and Phil to revisit their “Is acting important” debate. Meanwhile, your friends in podcasting try to make heads or tails of the ANGER and VITRIOL surrounding the health care debate. The future of 3D movies and 3D televisions are debated, future episodes of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour are previewed, and the truth behind the Swastika found on the moon is revealed. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got load up the car and burn rubber out of downtown L.A.’s historic core.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #146

It’s the USA vs. Canada, Thelma vs. Louise, Batman Begins vs. The Dark Knight, the 3-D Avatar vs.the black and white The White Ribbon … Dean and Phil are back from Laughlin, Nevada, where they attended the UFO Congress and interviewed David Sereda and Jordan Maxwell. Along the way, they tried to visit Baghdad and got stopped for felony speeding! All that, plus what harmonic bowls can teach us about the end of the Mayan Calendar, what it means to be over forty and interested in writing for television, and the return of Jay Leno on this free-wheeling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #142

It’s time for Dean and Phil to count down their Top Ten Films of 2009. We fear it’s a show that inspires more questions than it answers, however. For example … Why did Phil even bother making a Top Ten list when he has yet to see The White Ribbon, In the Loop, or Broken Embraces? Can Dean even count to ten (you’ll hear what we mean by this!)? Is Avatar really a “game-changer”? If so, is this a good thing? Nevertheless, a more entertaining hour of free internet conversation you are unlikely to find. Trust us. This top ten show has some huge unexpected laughs.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #141

Phil just got back from Park City, Utah, and he reports on all the Sundance and Slamdance activities. He and Dean also finish recapping their long voyage to the Pacific Northwest, with some particularly spooky stories about the area in and surrounding Yakima, Washington. This week, they’re on the road to Texas, but before they depart, they’ll be conducting an interview with the legendary Eric Roberts. They talk about this and weigh in on a wide variety of topics including Conan O’Brien’s last “Tonight Show”, the Producers Guild of America Awards, the Golden Globes, Avatar and what they’re reading … They even discuss complaints they’ve received about the audio quality of recent shows while actually having audio problems! It’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
