Chillpak Hollywood Hour #293

Happy Christmas, everybody!

This week’s show gets off to a flying start with a recap of the “Live Event of the Week” – the 28 hour marathon co-hosted by your friends in podcasting to ring in the end of the Mayan Calendar.

Dean discusses his road trip from hell.

Phil discusses catching up on some 2012 movies.

Dean and Phil revisit last’s week’s show all about the Top Films of All Time by looking at what directors had films mentioned most often on the lists submitted by guests of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

The show wraps up with a personal “Celebrity Death”, a wonderful character actor who was helping Dean and Phil in the development of their new film, The Lady Killers.

Speaking of The Lady Killers, please take the time to learn more about the film and how you can help (and PLEASE, spread the word!), by visiting here.

And if you’ve never seen Dean and Phil’s film The Truth is Out There . . . Why haven’t you? It’s available here.

Finally, we hope you will enjoy this holiday greeting from your friends in podcasting …

Chillpak Hollywood #292

This week’s show is over five and a half years in the making.

It starts with your friends in podcasting revealing their all-time Top Ten Films.

Then, they reveal the all-time Top Ten according to all the guests who have appeared on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

This consensus will be updated each year in late December as we add the lists submitted to us by that year’s guests …

What films will make the inaugural cut?

We wouldn’t dream of spoiling it. HOWEVER, we CAN let you know that these films did NOT make the top ten, though they came very close, finishing in positions twenty-four through eleven:

24. Vertigo (Director: Alfred Hitchcock, Year: 1958)
23. Apocalypse Now (Francis Coppola, 1979)
22. Amelie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001)
21. A Clockwork Orange (Stanley Kubrick, 1971)
19. TIE – Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994), The Big Lebowski (Joel Coen, 1998)
18. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Stanley Kubrick, 1964)
17. Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders, 1987)
16. the Matrix (The Wachowskis, 1999)
15. The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949)
14. Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974)
13. Fellini’s 8 1/2 (Federico Fellini, 1963)
12. Goodfellas (Martin Scorsese, 1990)

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #248

“From a secret location somewhere in America” your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness are attending a very unique event. Pull up a chair and sit beside them in Exhibitor Booth 404 at the LAX Hilton as they discuss stop-motion animation, Clint Eastwood, California’s Proposition 8, SOPA, stop-motion animation, Whitney Houston, community theater, The Great Gatsby, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, a record-setting box-office weekend, a lawsuit between Marvel comics and their artists, and the worst reception Dean and Phil have ever attended. A “freight train of fun”, it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #247

Anywhere from 6%-10% of the U.S. workforce might be calling in sick on the Monday after the Super Bowl, but not your friends in podcasting … Even if they wanted to, there’s way too much to discuss, from the eleven show biz personages who are remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” to the Tony-winning play that constitutes the “Live Event of the Week”, from Liam Neeson kicking nature’s ass to smuggling being depicted as a victimless crime, from promising sci-fi films in development to the man who claims Fox stole his life story through wiretapped phone conversations (YOUR “Lawsuit of the Week”), Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness don’t even get to everything they hoped to discuss. There’s THAT MUCH going on inside YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour #247.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #234

If you would like to get to SEE your friends in podcasting (rather than just hear them), make sure you check out their joint appearance on the ActorsE Chat Show (hosted by Yi Tian).

Also, if you’re going to be in the Seattle, Washington area on Tuesday 22 November, why not stop by the Northwest Film Forum to see THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE and to meet Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness? Only a handful of seats remain at this intimate venue, so get your tickets today!

Of course, we encourage you to listen to this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and visualize Dean and Phil and their visiting co-presenter, Jodie Orton (co-host of Siren 107.3 FM’s “American Dream Team” in the UK) as they sit around poolside atop the Eastern Columbia building, discussing the business of show …

Topics include: The disappearance of young men and teenaged boys from the multiplexes, the continuing plummet of Netflix stock, the drop in average ticket prices, the failure of “The Tower Heist”, the whereabouts of Richard Grieco and the wisdom of Avery Brooks (aka Captain Benjamin Sisko) as told to William Shatner in the Shatneriffic documentary “The Captains”.

All that plus TWO celebrity deaths, ONE Hollywood Lawsuit and FIVE intriguing projects that are in various stages of production, development or discussion.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #223

Forgive us for another delay, but your friend in podcasting, Dean Haglund is working CRAAZY hours shooting his hosting segments for “The X-Files” forthcoming syndication run on YouToo, a brand new cable network. Dean describes more of what he’s been shooting, and what kind of interactive technologies this network plans on utilizing on-air. And since talk of “The X-Files” is in the air, it’s only fitting that Dean and Phil discuss the brand new show Frank Spotnitz has sold to Cinemax and that show’s origins. What will be of particular interest to X-philes is the discussion Dean and Frank had in London about the possibility of an X-Files 3 and the real reason it hasn’t happened already (and no, Fox is NOT to blame).

Of course, even if you’ve never seen an episode of “The X-Files”, there will be plenty to love about this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollyood Hour, including discussions of a new Alien, a new Blade Runner and a new …The Wild Bunch?!?

Phil sings the praises of three actresses who have really come into their own as movie stars and whose extraordinary talents are on display at American multiplexes right now.

As podcast royalty, it is the responsibility of Dean and Phil to remember the Queen of Hollywood and a former First Lady, both of whom died this past week.

Finally, amidst all the stories of marketing madness and bizarre celebrity behavior, Dean and Phil find time to plot a way of attracting a brand new sponsor for show, looking to “The Jersey Shore”‘s The Situation for inspiration!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
