Chillpak Hollywood Hour #515

From a secret location “somewhere in America” (which is actually the offices of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club Foundation), Dean and Phil connect via Skype to discuss the World Premiere of their new film The Lady Killers, a documentary about the history of the disabled on screen, a fragile tone poem of an independent film, a horror mash-up about the descendants of Mina and Jonathan Harker, a franchise tent pole about a gigantic monkey and a “live-action” (not really) adaptation of a Broadway musical adaptation of an animated musical adaptation of a French fairy tale, as well and the death of Chuck Barris. All in all, it’s an hour in which your friends in podcasting discuss not only movies and television and celebrities, but the differently abled, diversity, reality shows, the importance of embracing discomfort, and so many other nourishing, inspiring and even hilarious concepts and topics. Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #470

Many years ago, your friends in podcasting had a very unique Summer Movie Preview episode that proved extremely popular. They’ve always thought of doing another, but for whatever reason, schedules never allowed. Finally, 7 years later, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness have done their prep work and are ready to deliver. After all, what is more “summer” in the movie biz than a long-anticipated sequel?! Perhaps, a sequel no one asked for …

Oh, well … On this week’s show, Dean and Phil preview all the hopeful blockbusters as well as several of the smaller comedies, documentaries and independent films hoping to make their mark at the box office as “counter-programming”. They do this by analyzing these movies’ trailers. Is the trailer good or bad? What can be gleaned about whether the film is good or bad? Do they think the film itself is like or unlike the one being advertised? The services AND disservices done to the audience by the way these films are marketed and advertised gets fully discussed. Film distribution nitty gritty, summer movie previews and much hilarity on this week’s brand new episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #103

Chris Mancini is a comedian, a filmmaker and a raconteur whose book

Pacify Me: A Handbook for the Freaked-Out New Dad

has just been published and he’s our guest on this week’s show. Following Dean’s hilarious, insightful, inspiring conversation with Chris, Phil joins the party with a look at the start of the summer movie season (off with a bang following the huge opening by the aggressively mediocre X-Men Origins: Wolverine), calling attention to several small, independent and/or foreign films that may serve as satisfying “counter-programming” to all the mindless mayhem being dished up by the studios.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #18

Dean’s back from Scotland! Phil and Dean catch up on summer blockbusters and discuss the obscure gems that slipped under the radar. Phil admits to being an a**hole, although he really isn’t. We love you, Phil.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
