Chillpak Hollywood Hour #483

What a smorgasbord of tasty audio topics your chefs in podcasting have cooked up for this week’s show! They remember Kenny Baker. They weigh in on Thomas Gibson’s firing from “Criminal Minds”. They discuss Malcolm Gladwell’s new podcast “Revisionist History” and such themes as “moral licensing” and how people with “low thresholds” can be expected to enact the most smart AND the most dumb behavior. Phil shares with Dean a news story pertaining to last week’s discussion about mobile phone usage in movie theaters (and other public places), a news story that actually featured Dean, himself! There’s scientific news from Dean’s adopted homeland Down Under, where some researchers believe they can prove stand-up comedians die younger than actors and other researchers think they have good news for Alzheimer’s patients. “Suicide Squad” is free-falling at the box office, but it still provides for this week’s long awaited return of the “Lawsuit of the Week”. All that, plus (at least) three 2016 cinematic releases get reviewed, including two that might have escaped your notice but are well worth your time and the new release “Florence Foster Jenkins” starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.

It sure sounds like a nourishing helping of podcasty goodness to us! So, sit back and enjoy YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #464

Disaster struck Dean Haglund’s home this morning, but the show must go on, with or without him. Fortunately, an old favorite stopped by to pick up the slack and guest co-host. Topics include: The death of Oscar-winner Patty Duke , Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice staking its claim as the most hated superhero film of all time (by both critics AND audiences) and how that hatred has the film’s distributor, Warner Bros., in full on scramble-mode, the return of “Daredevil” to the small screen, the horror genre, a whole bunch of current cinematic releases, upcoming releases as well as some very interesting news about films in development. PLUS a 1980′s indie classic from the UK.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #407

This week’s show begins and concludes with tributes to Leonard Nimoy.

In between, Dean regales us with tales of the Long Beach Comic Expo and Phil champions a wide-range of movies that you (yes, YOU) just might want to seek out.

Live Events, Movies, Celebrity Deaths, it’s all part of an hour’s work when it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #406

As always, there’s a wager involved and for the 2nd year running, you’ll be treated to some classic clips from Academy Awards presentations past. And now, the envelope, please …

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #402

How great a year in film was 2014? So great that neither Dean nor Phil managed to find room on their Top Ten Lists for the likes of such highly recommended features as Selma, Inherent Vice, The Babadook, CitizenFour or Calvary.

What DID make their lists? Listen to the episode (all 72 minutes of it!) and find out!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #401

Phil is finishing up two feature-length motion pictures. Dean appeared in two live shows. Together they are talking about those activities, answering emails from listeners like you, tackling the lack of diversity in the recently announced Academy Award nominations and taking on some of the worst films of the year.

And if they need ten percent more hour to get it all in, well who’s going to complain? It’s just six more minutes of Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness changing the way you listen to the internet!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #395

Get the popcorn ready … This week’s show is all about the movies – past, present and future!

Join Dean and Phil as they discuss both Ridley Scott AND Harrison Ford’s participation in the soon-to-be-filming Blade Runner sequel, as they remember a prolific author, an international comedy icon and one of the greatest Hollywood executives of all time, as they analyze the first kudos given out during Hollywood’s long award season, as they praise or pan 5 current releases (Interstellar, Cake, Nightcrawler, Black or White, Wild), and as they finally get down to the business of Blue is the Warmest Color (because so many of YOU wanted them to!).

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #384

Your friends in podcast preview the big week ahead before launching into discussions of the vote for Scottish independence, a movie about a U.S. Civil War battle, time banking, the career arcs of filmmaker Kevin Smith and comedian Dennis Miller, an underrated Kevin Costner vehicle, supposed bad news for women in film, and a quote lexicographer Samuel Johnson.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #380

Love a good rant? Phil Leirness has you covered, taking on everything from the Ice Bucket Challenge to “Dr. Who” to Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide to Helen Mirren and The Hundred-Foot Journey!

It’s all in good fun, though, and he and Dean Haglund also weigh in on Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Philip Seymour’s last completed performance in A Most Wanted Man, listener Andrew Burt’s PhD exams, their favorite Robin Williams roles and no doubt, a little bit more.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance.
