Chillpak Hollywood Hour #585

Dean Haglund spent part of his birthday recording this episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and it turns out to be a very special, very personal installment for your friends in podcasting. Sure, they talk about a whole bunch of movies, including Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Hotel Artemis, Sorry to Bother You, Eat Me and The Breaker Upperers, and they celebrate John Waters’ Hairspray at 30. Of course, they also discuss the latest news regarding the James Gunn and Chris Hardwick controversies and weigh in on the ramifications surrounding the accusations leveled at longtime CBS head honcho Les Moonves. All that plus disturbing news surrounding two L.A. icons and the show biz disruptor that is (was?) MoviePass. What makes the episode truly unforgettable and personal, however, will have to remain a secret to all but those who listen to this week’s show. Which you can do NOW wherever good podcasts can be found!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #575

Your friends in podcasting have a lot to cover on this week’s show! They will remember a 70′s icon, a legendary novelist and a prolific character actor in “Celebrity Deaths”. They will try to make sense of how America can actually move forward in the wake of yet another school shooting. They will discuss why this weekend’s Royal Wedding seemed to be such a big deal for so many. They will introduce a new segment called, “You Know Who’s Wonderful?” They will put the “Hollywood” into Chillpak Hollywood Hour by celebrating the glorious restorations of two cinematic landmarks, by discussing the brand new Hollywood Heritage annex and by discussing the proposed (and now stalled) trilogy of stand-alone “Star Trek” movies that were being written by the man responsible for all the best big-screen Treks. We’re not sure there’s any other podcast that covers such a wide range of topics and that does so with as much irreverence, insight or inspirational conversation as YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #461

On this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Dean Haglund discusses his current comedy show, his forthcoming show at an international comedy festival, and what has become of the show he used to host back in Los Angeles. A former First Lady and a musical great are remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” and Phil Leirness remembers what it was like to live in Los Angeles during the O.J. Simpson trial in the wake of the recent news surrounding that case. This serves as a perfect segue-way to talk about both the FX miniseries depicting that time in our history and the Will Smith vehicle, “Concussion” about long-lasting brain injuries caused by playing football. Paul Feig’s delightful “Other Space” has been championed on the show and this week, Dean and Phil will share whether there will ever be any more episodes produced. Meanwhile, the first official trailer for Feig’s all-female reboot of “Ghostbusters” was released and it was … Astonishingly awful. Of course, “astonishingly awful” would be a major step up for the trailers and commercials advertising “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” a film that has its distributor, Warner Bros., very worried and scrambling for a new way to launch their hopeful “Justice League” cinematic franchise. Dean and Phil will get into the nitty gritty inner workings and machinations of a legendary Hollywood studio in free fall. All that, plus a letter from a loyal listener about Canada’s support of female filmmakers is shared and much, much more!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #443

If you love Hollywood History, you’ve come to the right place! Such luminaries as Maureen O’Hara, Gary Cooper, Ray Milland, and W.C. Fields are celebrated on this week’s show. Love “Star Trek”? Lt. Kevin Reilly is remembered and a new CBS episodic series is previewed.

How about “Live Events of the Week”, “Lawsuits of the Week” and “What We’re Reading”? We’ve got all of them for you. Plus the most expensive Finnish film ever made, boasting one of Samuel L. Jackson’s most interesting performances.

All that this week AND a letter from a listener about two very cool sounding British crime series.

Love YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour? You’ve come to the right place.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #383

It’s too darn hot in Los Angeles and your friends in podcasting are high as proverbial kites on codeine swirl frappuccinos!

Dean performed in a “Live Event of the Week” and this fact leads to a discussion of public transportation, the immune system and Biddy Mason.

Phil spent all week (and the week before that) trying to get their new film submitted to Sundance, and in the process watch documentaries about The Magnificent Seven, Sam Peckinpah and Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory. He also saw the last film to star the great James Gandolfini (and boasting merely the latest indelible performance from the masterful Tom Hardy).

Two “Lawsuits of the Week” are discussed, which leads to analysis of sexual abuse in Hollywood, domestic violence in professional football and the role of interns in show business.

A great comic and a legendary big-screen villain are remembered.

All that, plus much more … Pass the Chillpak. It’s too darn hot!
