Chillpak Hollywood Hour #436

Well into their 9th year of changing the way people listen to the internet, your friends in podcasting keep finding new ways to do just that … This week, it’s a three-way Skype show with special (and frequent) guest Marc Hershon of Succotash. He joins Dean and Phil to discuss this weekend’s 4th annual Los Angeles Podfest and to review the podcasting documentary “Ear Buds”.

Before that, Phil rips the Emmys a new one for putting on such a boring show, while commending them for a few of their choices in honorees. Then, Dean champions a film by a female director that has stood the test of time. Phil lauds two recent independent films – one horror, one comedy – that you (yes, YOU) will absolutely love. That leads into their ongoing discussion on the art and commerce of supporting players, or “character actors”. Finally, Phil brings back the “Live Event of the Week” after seeing one of Dean’s favorite Broadway shows of recent years.

Chillpak Hollywood #418

Goodbyes are foremost on the minds of your friends in podcasting … Phil offers up his thoughts about the “Mad Men” finale and from Dean Haglund’s goodbye to The Big and Tall Show and to the U.S.A. to music lovers’ goodbye to the legendary B.B. King, from David Letterman’s goodbye to late night television to Harry Shearer’s goodbye to “The Simpsons”, this week’s episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour embraces the ephemeral nature of life and art. The glories of Sci-Fest are extolled. A Sherlock Holmes movie with Ian McKellen is previewed. The return of “The X-Files”, “Twin Peaks” and Rosario Dawson to “Daredevil” are discussed. Will Phil be binge watching either “Aquarius” or “Hannibal”? Is Dean interested in Conan O’Brien’s new, funny “X-Files”? Stop reading and start listening and you’ll find out. Wherever good podcasts are found.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #305

Coming to you a little bit late, but with a bonus four minutes, this week’s show is action-packed and really puts the “your” in YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour as Dean and Phil discuss … An email from listener Lejon Johnson about a Caravaggio discussion in episode 295 … An email from listener Matt Giles about the success of Veronica Mars on Kickstarter … A Facebook post from listener Greg Vincent about last week’s “genius” vs. “artist” discussion … A voicemail message of apology from listener and podcaster March Hershon … And finally, a request from listener Patricia Brady that we bring back classic episode #182 from the archives.

All that, plus your friends in podcasting discuss Dean’s latest acting gig, his most recent art show, Spielberg’s newest collaboration with the dead Stanley Kubrick, what Jon Stewart’s going to do on his summer vacation, Phil’s advice for auditioning actors, what they’re reading, a Live Event of the Week and a Lawsuit of the Week.

Wow. Let’s get started, shall we?

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #188

Chris Mancini is a stand-up comic, filmmaker and author, who was the guest on Chillpak Hollywood Hour #103 when he discussed his just-published book Pacify Me: A Handbook for the Freaked-Out New Dad with Dean Haglund. Now, he’s back to discuss how the book was received (both commercially and critically), the state of (and future of) publishing, as well as of stand-up comedy, short filmmaking, and CHH “sister” podcast “Comedy Film Nerds”. This week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour will definitely put the “happy” in Happy Holidays!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #103

Chris Mancini is a comedian, a filmmaker and a raconteur whose book

Pacify Me: A Handbook for the Freaked-Out New Dad

has just been published and he’s our guest on this week’s show. Following Dean’s hilarious, insightful, inspiring conversation with Chris, Phil joins the party with a look at the start of the summer movie season (off with a bang following the huge opening by the aggressively mediocre X-Men Origins: Wolverine), calling attention to several small, independent and/or foreign films that may serve as satisfying “counter-programming” to all the mindless mayhem being dished up by the studios.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
