Chillpak Hollywood Hour #524

On the eve of hitting the road to meet up in Dallas, your friends in podcasting got personal, to discuss all the things they are looking forward to in the coming months … Forthcoming investigations into ghosts, UFOs, Civil War History, the Kennedy assassination, Gullah Culture, get discussed … Forthcoming adventures, film festival screenings, art gallery showings and improv comedy venues in Los Angeles, the UK, the Pacific Northwest, and Melbourne, Australia get previewed … Hopes and fears surrounding “Blade Runner 2049″ are compared.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #511

The 7th of ten planned “Top Ten” shows your friends in podcasting are doing to commemorate Year 10 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is one of their most personal and unusual shows of the year … Back when they were shooting their epic documentary The Truth Is Out There, someone asked Phil whether he and Dean do the podcast to promote their movies, or whether they make movies to promote their podcast. Phil found amusing the assumption that promotion MUST be a part of what he and Dean were doing and yet found the question an interesting one. Almost six years since the World Premiere of that film, which is truly equal parts comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, it is apparent that what motivates them to keep making films is the same thing that motivates them to keep doing this show: A desire to engage in conversation. Join them this week, as they take a look back at “TRUTH” and count down the top ten things that strike them now when watching their prescient, disturbing, moving and truly funny documentary. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you will find the discussion about it inspiring, insightful, irreverent. It is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #507

Listeners new to the show might be surprised to learn that there was a time when Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness might go weeks without needing to discuss “celebrity deaths.” Clearly, those days are long gone. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), beyond a cursory tribute, your friends in podcasting will have to wait at least a week to celebrate the lives of Mary Tyler Moore, Mike Connors, Gorden Kaye and John Hurt (are we forgetting anybody? No? Don’t worry, by next week, there will no doubt be more!). THIS WEEK, Dean and Phil will celebrate the best in movies for the year that was as they count down their Top Ten Best Films of 2016.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #476

Most of Monday’s show is a conversation that took place a couple weeks back between your friends in podcasting and special guest Dave Pickering. And since that time, Dean and Phil have been dying to share it with you … Dave Pickering is a “storyteller” in so many ways. Based in the UK, he hosts and produces Getting Better Acquainted, Stand Up Tragedy and much, much more. He has a new show debuting this fall that sounds fascinating. Just interviewing him would make for a great show, but he actually starts out by turning the tables on Dean and Phil and interviewing THEM for the first half hour! What transpires is surprising, thoughtful and maybe even inspiring. All in all, it’s an hour unlike any other, which is to say, it’s what you loyal listeners have come to expect from YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #471

Right before exploring the Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave in North Western New Mexico, Phil Leirness touches base with Dean Haglund (who’s down under, of course), before Dean welcomes a special guest, Steven-Elliot Altman. Steven-Elliot is an author, graphic novelist, producer, screenwriter and video game writer-director whose latest game is based on the television series Ancient Aliens.

Aliens, UFOs, Sherlock Holmes, sci-fi novels and more on this week’s brand new episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #452

At their best, your friends in podcasting provide episodes full of the insightful, the inspiring and the irreverent. Annually, one such episode you can count on for all of this is the their traditional New Year’s Resolutions show. This week, Dean and Phil finally give 2016 a proper launch by holding their feet to the fire as they look back at the resolutions they made at the start of last year, before launching into their intentions for 2016. It’s a definite crowd-pleaser!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #425

Brought to you by THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, the epic documentary of comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, this is part 2 the special 2-part episode delving into the meaning of the 2nd X-Files film (“The X-Files: I Want to Believe”).

In this thumbs up/thumbs down, letter grade, scale of 1 to 10, good/bad, right/wrong world in which we live, where movie reviews pass for film criticism, the ability to actually “read” a film, to explore it’s subtext, to understand what it truly means and what it says, is becoming lost (dying?). This week and last, your friends in podcasting try to remedy that … Film fans, X-philes, art lovers, those interested in depth psychology or those who simply enjoy spirited, inspirational conversation are bound to be delighted.

Unfortunately, the audio quality isn’t the best and for that, we apologize.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #394

John Alan Simon spent many years as a successful journalist and an esteemed film and music critic before becoming actively involved in the financing, selling and marketing of independent motion pictures. Recently, he wrote, produced and directed Radio Free Albemuth, a motion picture adaptation of the novel by Phillip K Dick.

This week, he’s the guest on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #129

Take a road trip with Dean and Phil as they drive to sunny Malibu to conduct an interview for their documentary The Truth Is Out There. Dean has just returned from the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia where he hosted a Live Ghost Adventures special for the Travel Channel. He reveals much about the pressure of hosting this show, of the behind-the-scenes turmoil and he critiques the very Ghost Adventures approach to paranormal investigation. Dean also looks forward to his work this week shooting a guest-starring role on Bones. Speaking of bones, sucking dead bones dry seems to be a rampant and recurring theme in popular culture, from the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It topping the box office charts, to a spate of sequels and remakes dominating the production reports. Dean and Phil weigh in on the prevailing corporate and social paradigm of risk management, and what that means for creative expression, as well as what it means to lead with your strengths. Oh and Phil concocts a conspiracy theory relating to the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. As always, an irreverent, insightful and inspiring hour of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride along the pot-hole-ridden freeways of Southern California, but if you behave yourselves, we may just hit a drive thru!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #390

Buckle up, this one is a wild ride, boasting many questions …

Is Dean living in nominal time? Is there going to be a “new” film from Orson Welles? Did Phil join the Blue Man Group? What is feminism? What’s the deal with Dr. Who? What’s with the graphic sex in Blue is the Warmest Color? Should Interstellar really be called Inter(mittently) Stellar? Why might the Marvel films might outperform the DC films? What was revealed in the Sarah Jones/Midnight Rider lawsuit? Will Jennifer Aniston be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar this year?

All that is discussed, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s new gigs and a Live Event of the Week featuring a CHH family member.

Finally, make sure to check out the incredibly moving Project Unbreakable and the incredibly cool “Urban Legends” Halloween short film Lily Holleman stars in.
