Chillpak Hollywood Hour #515

From a secret location “somewhere in America” (which is actually the offices of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club Foundation), Dean and Phil connect via Skype to discuss the World Premiere of their new film The Lady Killers, a documentary about the history of the disabled on screen, a fragile tone poem of an independent film, a horror mash-up about the descendants of Mina and Jonathan Harker, a franchise tent pole about a gigantic monkey and a “live-action” (not really) adaptation of a Broadway musical adaptation of an animated musical adaptation of a French fairy tale, as well and the death of Chuck Barris. All in all, it’s an hour in which your friends in podcasting discuss not only movies and television and celebrities, but the differently abled, diversity, reality shows, the importance of embracing discomfort, and so many other nourishing, inspiring and even hilarious concepts and topics. Enjoy!

A discussion about the art, craft and deceptive practices of movie trailers leads into an analysis of two quite buzzed about recent trailers and the promise of a film being released next month and one going into production soon. All that, plus Dean and Phil reveal what they are reading and a man who leaves behind one of the most significant legacies in the modern history of cinema is remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”. Chillpak Hollywood Hour #415

We’re only two episodes away from the end of year 8 and only five episodes away from Dean Haglund’s move to Australia, yet your friends in podcasting have more to discuss than ever before! From a full report on the preview screening of their new dark comedy, to the latest news regarding Sci-Fest, from the latest rumblings about the return of The X-Files to Phil’s heartfelt thank you and farewell to a film critic who played a major role in his development as an artist, this week’s installment is quite personal to Dean and Phil.

There is a ton of talk about current television (like Mad Men, Daredevil, and the countdown to David Letterman’s final show) and future television (an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, the Twin Peaks reboot, and perhaps the most exciting new show to be announced in AGES!). There is also much attention to paid to forthcoming movies, including ill-advised remakes and reboots, and maybe a film or two worthy of optimism!

Dean and Phil follow up on their (enormously popular) discussion of female-driven films (episode #413), with a discussion of two emerging female musical artists. All that, plus the latest dirt Phil has learned about Scientology AND not one, not two, not three, but FOUR emails from listeners like you! Want to learn about IMDb? Want to learn about Dean and Phil’s favorite cookies? Then, stop reading and start enjoying this thrilling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

What other weekly show is live before a ParanoiaCon audience one week, covers all things Comic-Con (including brand new Season 10 of “The X-Files”) the next week, and features an actual Shaman as a special guest the week after that?

Why YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, of course!

Listeners of the show know that Dean Haglund is (among many other things) an actor and a producer. Phil Leirness is an independent filmmaker. On August 3, your friends in podcasting commenced principal photography on their third feature film together, The Lady Killers.

On this week’s show, join Dean Haglund on location for an on-set, behind-the-scenes look at this dark comedy and some of the personalities involved in its making.

Let the hilarity begin!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance.
