Chillpak Hollywood Hour #483

What a smorgasbord of tasty audio topics your chefs in podcasting have cooked up for this week’s show! They remember Kenny Baker. They weigh in on Thomas Gibson’s firing from “Criminal Minds”. They discuss Malcolm Gladwell’s new podcast “Revisionist History” and such themes as “moral licensing” and how people with “low thresholds” can be expected to enact the most smart AND the most dumb behavior. Phil shares with Dean a news story pertaining to last week’s discussion about mobile phone usage in movie theaters (and other public places), a news story that actually featured Dean, himself! There’s scientific news from Dean’s adopted homeland Down Under, where some researchers believe they can prove stand-up comedians die younger than actors and other researchers think they have good news for Alzheimer’s patients. “Suicide Squad” is free-falling at the box office, but it still provides for this week’s long awaited return of the “Lawsuit of the Week”. All that, plus (at least) three 2016 cinematic releases get reviewed, including two that might have escaped your notice but are well worth your time and the new release “Florence Foster Jenkins” starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.

It sure sounds like a nourishing helping of podcasty goodness to us! So, sit back and enjoy YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #451

Ordinarily, your friends in podcasting spend their first show of January looking back at the resolutions they made at the start of the previous year and then setting their intentions for the year to come. This annual tradition will be delayed one week. This week, Dean and Phil pick up exactly where they left off last week. In fact, it’s as if they are still in the same seats, across the table from each other in Los Feliz (despite whatever Dean might say in the opening). After sharing some final thoughts about “The Force Awakens” (and the more he thinks about the movie, the angrier Dean gets), they discuss a recently published list of the most “overlooked” films of 2015, analyzing each entry on that list. Phil also weighs in on two cinematic award hopefuls, David O’Russell’s “Joy” and the Maggie Smith vehicle “The Lady in the Van”. There’s also time for two emails from listeners (listeners like YOU). One is a follow-up on the discussion of TV’s “Supernatural” from a few weeks back and the other is an incredibly thought-provoking message about “women warriors”.

Something for everyone?

We like to think so.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #420

Now that Dean Haglund resides in Sydney, Australia, we have to ask is Dean Haglund on the “down low from down under”? Is he “the thunder from down under”? Is the show “asunder from down under”?

In the weeks and months to come, your friends in podcasting will most certainly have to change the way they change the way you listen to the internet! For now, we invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy a very special “theme show”. It’s all about Dean and Phil’s favorite funny ladies of stage and screen.

And, yes, it was pre-recorded.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
