Chillpak Hollywood Hour #583

On his way to Detroit, Dean stopped by a certain historic building in Los Angeles to record this week’s episode, He and Phil preview Dean’s trip this week to Motor City as well as talk about Dean’s permanent move there taking place later this year. They also re-visit an idea Dean floated back during their days making The Truth Is Out There, that in this day and age, the conspiracy theory IS the conspiracy … They celebrate the lives of a legendary choreographer, an all-time great documentary filmmaker and a matinee idol in “Celebrity Deaths” before discussing a wide range of recent cinematic releases including “Thor: Ragnarok“, “Ant-Man and the Wasp“, “Blade Runner 2049“, “Three Identical Strangers“, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom“, and a Bollywood comedy about … defecating in the woods?! YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Wherever good podcasts can be found.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #574

Last week, year 12 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour got off to a smashing start and this week, your friends in podcasting will continue the discussion about the current states and futures of several beloved franchises. This week, it will be the DC Cinematic Universe and 007 under the microscope. Dean and Phil will continue to discuss the dire outlook for big screen comedies and what can be done to revive this once indispensable genre. Perhaps the greatest film editor of all time will be remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” and her great career will provide a segue-way into further discussion of women in film, the career of Sarah Polley and the “magic” of screen acting. All that plus a discussion of Tina Fey’s appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix show leads to the traditional relationship between stand-up and improv comedy.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #572

A show eleven years in the making! As longtime listeners of the show know, Dean and Phil used to begin each calendar year with a “New Year’s Resolutions” show, where they set their intentions for the year ahead, while looking back and holding their feet to the fire about the resolutions they had made one year prior. For a variety of reasons they will discuss, your friends in podcasting discontinued that tradition this year … This week marks 11 years of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and Dean and Phil will commemorate the special event by looking back at their resolutions to start 2017 and seeing how well they lived up to them! It will be a very thoughtful, heartfelt, and we bet, inspiring hour all about art, comedy, friendship, aging, and love. Plus you get to hear, at long last, Phil’s thoughts on Star Wars: The Last Jedi AND you will learn just when a certain graphic novel might be finished!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #571

Back on schedule, your friends in podcasting offer up a fun grab bag of audio goodness this week … Dean reports on “Ironfest” and discusses his future “X-Files” convention appearances. Lily Holleman reports live from a film festival in Miami where she is attending the screening of a movie in which she co-stars. Phil is in Los Angeles, of course, where he discusses the revival of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club, a truly bizarre cop film from the 1970′s, and a recent epic movie about a real-life explorer. All that plus Dean and Phil remember both a country music great and a beloved (diminutive) cinematic sidekick.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #569

Your friends in podcasting have a lot of personal news to share: Dean’s continued recovery from knee surgery, details for the upcoming release of their movie The Lady Killers, the latest on Fuzz Aldrin’s miraculous return to health, and where in the world Dean will be living next! A couple of conversation threads from past weeks are picked up and amplified, as Dean and Phil discuss Dean’s feelings about film noir and why the box office success of the Star Wars franchise has always been unrelated to the films’ quality (or lack thereof). More than a half dozen current and recent movies get analyzed, including Atomic Blonde, A Quiet Passion, Blade Runner 2049, Red Sparrow, Ready Player One, A Quiet Place, Game Night and more.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #539

This week, your friends in podcasting bring you a truly epic 70 minute installment that opens with Phil holding court about spoiler alerts, time travel, dream logic and more as he discusses both “The Prisoner” on its 50th Anniversary and “Twin Peaks: The Return” in the wake of its brilliant finale. He even explains “what happened to Audrey!” Then Dean joins Phil to update us on the Sydney Hilarium, his pop-up comedy club, and to celebrate the lives of a former child star, the creator of McGruff the Crime Dog, one-half of Steely Dan, and the “gentle giant” of country music. After that, they follow up on their previous discussion about monuments and statues thanks to an email from a listener like you (well, maybe not EXACTLY like you, unless you created the normal theme song for the show). Then, a fascinating, possible “Lawsuit of the Week” surrounding a reboot of the 1980′s television series “Amazing Stories” comes our way courtesy of frequent contributor Stephen Fowler. Finally, Dean and Phil roll up their sleeves and dig into more than a dozen movies, including comedies from the 1930′s, sci-fi films from the 1960′s and five 2017 releases.

Great TV, many genres of films, musical surprises, and several big laughs. In other words, YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
