Chillpak Hollywood Hour #408

Cookies. Adrian Brody and John Cusack in China. The deaths of a “Star Trek” producer and a legendary documentarian. A network television remake of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s The Declogue. Werner Herzog’s latest adventure in the South American wild. Spider-man’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The history of long form and short form improv. Mike Leigh’s improv approach to his (Academy Award nominated) screenplays. The future of Oscar acceptance speeches. The films of Stanley Kubrick. The best edited movies of all time. The history of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club. A forthcoming Alien sequel from the maker of District 9. That’s a lot to chew on. But chew on it all Dean and Phil do. Especially the cookies. It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #348

What other show covers such a range of topics as cognitive dissonance, psychogenic fugue states, memory, time travel, the Golden Globes, San Diego Comic-Con, California small claims court and the remains of ancient civilizations in the Amazon?

It’s just another hour in the office for Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour 339

On this week’s show, your friends in podcasting begin with a brief exchange concerning Tom Cruise and Veterans Day, followed by a discussion of the publishing business and “novellas”. Then, a note from a loyal listener leads to more discussion about Vincent Price, before Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness launch into a discussion of German Expressionism, the impact it had on silent films, film noir, David Lynch and even the art work of … Dean, himself.

Then, the gents follow up on an email from a listener last week concerning digital piracy. This results in Dean and Phil listing and analyzing the top ten most pirated movies of the past year and whether any of their financial fortunes were actually harmed by this piracy.

Then, it’s the ten movie trailers that forever changed the way films were advertised and sold.

Finally, Phil wraps up with his take on the versatile and brilliant Stephen Merchant’s new series “Hello Ladies”.

Trust us, somehow, the entire show turns out to be a riot.

As ever … On YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #314

The show begins with selections from a rather hilarious Skype conversation between Phil Leirness and March Hershon of Succotash.

Following the theme song, Dean Haglund is back, and tells of his whirlwind, speeding-ticket-filled road trip to Winnipeg and back.

Violence prevention is very much on the mind of Phil, as he participated in a gang violence “interruption” on Saturday night. He talks about that and the short film Flawless.

Mostly, though, movies are what your friends in podcasting really want to talk about, from the role of critics, to the resurrection of Harrison Ford, to the post-apocalypse bandwagon, to the lack of roles for women, to the work of Stanley Kubrick, to the latest installment of Star Trek.

All this week, on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour …

About the show
