Chillpak Hollywood Hour #511

The 7th of ten planned “Top Ten” shows your friends in podcasting are doing to commemorate Year 10 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is one of their most personal and unusual shows of the year … Back when they were shooting their epic documentary The Truth Is Out There, someone asked Phil whether he and Dean do the podcast to promote their movies, or whether they make movies to promote their podcast. Phil found amusing the assumption that promotion MUST be a part of what he and Dean were doing and yet found the question an interesting one. Almost six years since the World Premiere of that film, which is truly equal parts comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, it is apparent that what motivates them to keep making films is the same thing that motivates them to keep doing this show: A desire to engage in conversation. Join them this week, as they take a look back at “TRUTH” and count down the top ten things that strike them now when watching their prescient, disturbing, moving and truly funny documentary. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you will find the discussion about it inspiring, insightful, irreverent. It is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #386

We apologize for the delay in getting this to you. Your friend in podcasting, Phil Leirness, is really ill. Hence the delay. Nevertheless, it’s a great show, full of emails from listeners like you (yes, YOU!).

Enjoy, as Dean Haglund and Phil discuss the problems facing the NFL, what consittues “tone” in movies, the influence of David Lynch on the past decades of independent cinema, the return of “Twin Peaks”, the life and death of Dr. Stanley Monteith, and the new films The Boxtrolls, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, The Equalizer and The Skeleton Twins.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #281

The month just ended (September 2012) saw the most downloads of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour since the show went independent in January of 2011 and your friends in podcasting celebrate this news with perhaps the most hilarious opening they’ve ever had!

Even when the irreverence ends, the jokes and witty bon mots continue in full effect as Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness take on (or revisit) such topics as Catholic weddings, fluoridation of water, Monsanto’s House of the Future, educational institutions, corporate culture, government bureaucracies, a murder mystery in Phil’s neighborhood of Los Feliz, celebrity deaths, emails from listeners and a wide range of films dealing with mental health issues.

And remember, The Truth Is Out There is now out there on BLU-RAY!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #144

Filmmaker and podcast host Kevin Smith was removed from an airline flight this weekend, allegedly for being “too fat”. Obesity and the industrialization of food are foremost on Dean and Phil’s minds, and on the minds of such individuals as Dr. Stanley Monteith and Alex Jones, individuals that have been interviewed for THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, individuals who believe that the New World Order is here and that its agenda involves a massive reduction in the human population. Meanwhile, it’s President’s Day here in the U.S., so Dean and Phil discuss some of their favorite stories relating to their favorite presidents. Finally, Phil dusts off his soapbox and unleashes a beauty of an oratory on subjects ranging from the Jungian “shadow” archetype to our intuitive understanding of the world and the need for biological diversity. The real question is What DON’T Dean and Phil talk about on this installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour?

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
