You would think when recording more than a day late, your friends in podcasting might be in something of a hurry … Instead, they take this installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and turn it into a leisurely 70 minute conversation about the UK “The Office”, “The Larry Sanders Show”, the acting intensive Phil taught this past weekend, recent news about their film The Lady Killers, a recent feature film about improv comedy, the great Don Rickles, and an email from a listener like you (yes, YOU) all about last week’s “Top Ten Artists” episode. All that, plus Dean delves further into the political and moral commentary contained within the paintings of Manet, they discuss what they are reading (a book that might become a future film by Phil and Dean actually reading fiction!), and there is a whole lot of movie development news, featuring the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Christian Bale, Sylvester Stallone and Joss Whedon!
Sounds like a good show to us!
Let your friends in podcasting put a little Ho Ho Ho into your holidays (and honestly, we have no idea what this even means) with their fourth “Top Ten” show of this, year ten of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour … This week, Dean and Phil count down their Top Ten (episodic) Television Shows of 2016, and this year their countdown comes replete with caveats! Who doesn’t love a good caveat during the holiday season?
If you haven’t listened to last week’s episode #455, make sure to do so BEFORE you check out this week’s barnd new show. Your friends in podcasting pick up where they left off as both Dean and Phil will reveal their Top Four favorite television series of 2015 (10 thru 5 were counted down last week). After that, Phil explains why he is so thrilled about the sequel to Blade Runner that is finally going before the cameras this summer, and in “Celebrity Deaths” one of the most important entertainment figures in Asia and a beloved American character actor are both remembered. Dean and Phil then tackle Hollywood’s award season, including analysis of the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild Awards, before launching into the LATEST controversy over the Oscars’ lack of diversity (#oscarsowhite). Boycotts generate headlines, membership changes … change the membership. Real change, however, might involve actually changing the awards themselves and your friends in podcasting have some serious ideas in this regard, changes that will reward those unsung in the business for too long, refocus the purpose of the awards AND might just lead to greater diversity. That’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
One recent trip and the discovery of a 30 year-old document, led Phil Leirness to ruminate on the nature of nostalgia. He shares these thoughts with you … And speaking of nostalgia, a certain television franchise from the 1990′s has returned to the small screen. After having been very careful not to spoil anything in advance of its airing, Dean Haglund and Phil will weigh in on what we’ve seen thus far and will discuss (spoiler-free) on where the series is heading … And then, the main event! Following up on last week’s epic rundown on the best (and worst) of cinema in 2015, Dean and Phil start to reveal their top ten television shows of 2015.
Celebrity Deaths, Hollywood lawsuits, wingnuts, award-winning movies, television development news, how to see famous actors in person (and learn about acting), theatre closures, prejudice against comedy, sexism at the Playboy mansion (shocking!), and letters from listeners … It’s a true holiday grab-bag on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness are giving ’til it hurts.
And then, they’re giving some more …
Dean and Phil just got back from Oakland, where Dean was performing his live improv comedy show and Phil was conducting test shoots for their recently announced documentary The Truth is Out There …
On this week’s show, they’ll talk about this trip as well as the trips they have planned to such destinations as Chicago, Atlanta, Berlin, Oslo, Cocoa Beach (Florida) and various parts of Canada. Chillpak Hollywood Hour may very well be coming to your city or town!
On a future show, Dean and Phil plan on interviewing Vince Gilligan, creator of the hit series “Breaking Bad.” On this week’s show, they discuss the Emmy nominations received by Vince’s program and by all your favorites. They also discuss the omission of “True Blood” from the nominations. TV fans won’t want to miss it.
Sci-fi and horror fans won’t want to miss this week’s show, either, as Dean weighs in on the state of the union in the horror genre and Phil does the same for sci-fi films.
And because he’s a town crier, Phil gets on his soapbox about dolphins and suggests a Website created by one of our loyal listeners that you may just want to visit.
It’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour …
