Chillpak Hollywood Hour #546

After several weeks of “pre-recorded” episodes, Dean and Phil hooked up via Skype to catch up on each other’s travels and to discuss the recent change in attitudes towards their unsettling dark comedy The Lady Killers. Prepare to be amazed by Dean’s adventures in Cambodia, where he painted, explored, and came down with a nifty bout of intestinal distress! Phil recounts his first ever trip to Las Vegas, his exploration of Utah, his challenges adjusting to the altitude of Aspen, Colorado, and the breathtaking, life-changing majesty of Monument Valley. He also regales with tales of “Portlandia” and “Twin Peaks” filming locations and describes the reception afforded their aforementioned movie at the Tri-Cities International Film Festival. In the wake of what seems to be a never-ending avalanche of news involving the appalling behavior of men, with their depiction of toxic masculinity, Dean and Phil have made a film one recent reviewer called, “exactly the kind of film we need right now.” All that, plus the cryptic advice Phil received on the road: “Life begins at Moab”. YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Buckle up and prepare for takeoff!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #398

It’s the last episode of 2014 and your friends in podcasting end the year in high style, welcoming two guests to the show …

First up, filmmaker and esteemed film critic and journalist John Alan Simon returns with advice and encouragement for all who wish to pursue careers in film criticism or film journalism.

Then, Dean and Phil welcome the fabulous Tori Higginson (of TekWar, Stargate: Atlantis and The English Patient fame) who talks sci-fi, nudity, exploitation, the state of roles for women and first dates in Paris.

To all of you who listen to YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, thanks for helping to make 2014 so memorable and here’s wishing you the best of everything in 2015!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #383

It’s too darn hot in Los Angeles and your friends in podcasting are high as proverbial kites on codeine swirl frappuccinos!

Dean performed in a “Live Event of the Week” and this fact leads to a discussion of public transportation, the immune system and Biddy Mason.

Phil spent all week (and the week before that) trying to get their new film submitted to Sundance, and in the process watch documentaries about The Magnificent Seven, Sam Peckinpah and Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory. He also saw the last film to star the great James Gandolfini (and boasting merely the latest indelible performance from the masterful Tom Hardy).

Two “Lawsuits of the Week” are discussed, which leads to analysis of sexual abuse in Hollywood, domestic violence in professional football and the role of interns in show business.

A great comic and a legendary big-screen villain are remembered.

All that, plus much more … Pass the Chillpak. It’s too darn hot!

Finally, if you’re going to be in Los Angeles, the weekend of October 4 thru 6, why not head over to Santa Monica for the 2nd annual Podfest? Dean and Phil will be there, performing a live installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

chillpak Hollywood Hour #9

Things get serious as “Captivity” continues to irk Phil. Letter writing and petitions ensue.
