Chillpak Hollywood Hour #481

“Action-packed” does not begin to describe this thrilling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Your friends in podcasting continue to revisit their summer movie predictions, seeing how their estimations of the summer releases’ quality and box office performances (based entirely on those movies’ marketing campaigns) compared to reality. This means more on the disastrous results for Ghostbusters: Answer the Call and Star Trek Beyond, and analysis of Cafe Society, Bad Moms, and Jason Bourne (you know his name!). There are also reviews of Little Men and The Conjuring 2, Dean tells how he celebrated his birthday, and Phil attends a Flight of the Conchords concert. All that plus the end of money laundering as a way to finance movies, the return of Harry Potter in print and on stage, the intellectual property case against the return of “Stephen Colbert” and Phil hangs out with Jay Leno!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #396

The holidays are rapidly approaching, so it’s only appropriate your friends in podcasting gift you with one of their most heartfelt shows of the year as they welcome special guest Suli McCullough. Suli is an accomplished, talented and hilarious writer, producer, actor and stand-up comic who has written for “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, acted in such films as Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and is currently producing a documentary about stand-up comedy featuring the biggest names in the business. Suli and Phil grew up together, so in addition to fascinating and irreverent stories of show business adventures, this week’s episode will boast thoughtful and moving discussions about race, art, culture and communication. Even after more than 7 1/2 years of free, weekly podcasty goodness, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness keep coming up with new and ever-more nourishing helpings of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #353

Dean’s jet lagged, Phil spent all day locking picture on their new film (The Lady Killers) and consequently, this show is coming at you one day late …

In keeping with yesterday’s President’s Day here in the U.S.A., Phil asks an interesting question about the 11th President, James K. Polk.

Dean talks of Thailand on the 10th anniversary of the Tsunami.

They both answer a question about the documentary Blackfish before remembering the four show business notables that left us last week (a comedic titan, a Danish film master, a beloved character actor, and a child icon-turned-diplomat).

Then, following a humorous anecdote from Phil involving Alec Guinness, a bay area school teacher and a horror film, your friends in podcasting try to elevate the cultural discourse surrounding the Woody Allen controversy.

Finally, the show concludes with a couple words about women in movies and a killer preview for next week’s show (consider it a cliffhanger!).

Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #279

Fires in Los Angeles, triathlons in Long Beach, weddings in Virginia, award ceremonies in Washington, D.C., anti-Islamic YouTube videos, the mysterious Toynbee tiles, the fluoridation of our water supply …

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #238

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #224

Your friends in podcasting had so much to discuss today that YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour #224 is almost 10% more hour!

Dean’s recent trip to Winnipeg is described. Questions from listeners Erica Fraga and Wendy Wayne are answered. Dean’s itinerary for Dragon*Con is revealed (if you’re going to be there, make sure to have pen and paper handy). Phil’s frustrations with a recent interview he gave are analyzed.

Of course, Dean and Phil talk television, including discussions of Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, David Letterman and the state of late night, Jeremy Piven and his new reality series, Usain Bolt and the World Track and Field Championships.

And, of course, Dean and Phil talk movies, focusing on two films that co-star Oscar nominee (for Winter’s Bone), Jennifer Lawrence: The Beaver and X-Men: First Class.

Oh, and if you’re going to be in the Portland, Oregon, area on 9/11, why not check out Dean Haglund, Phil Leirness, the pilot of “The Lone Gunmen”, some never before seen footage of Dean, Tom and Bruce together again, and a FREE screening of The Truth Is Out There? Event details will all be available at www.GroundZeroMedia.Org.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #146

It’s the USA vs. Canada, Thelma vs. Louise, Batman Begins vs. The Dark Knight, the 3-D Avatar vs.the black and white The White Ribbon … Dean and Phil are back from Laughlin, Nevada, where they attended the UFO Congress and interviewed David Sereda and Jordan Maxwell. Along the way, they tried to visit Baghdad and got stopped for felony speeding! All that, plus what harmonic bowls can teach us about the end of the Mayan Calendar, what it means to be over forty and interested in writing for television, and the return of Jay Leno on this free-wheeling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #141

Phil just got back from Park City, Utah, and he reports on all the Sundance and Slamdance activities. He and Dean also finish recapping their long voyage to the Pacific Northwest, with some particularly spooky stories about the area in and surrounding Yakima, Washington. This week, they’re on the road to Texas, but before they depart, they’ll be conducting an interview with the legendary Eric Roberts. They talk about this and weigh in on a wide variety of topics including Conan O’Brien’s last “Tonight Show”, the Producers Guild of America Awards, the Golden Globes, Avatar and what they’re reading … They even discuss complaints they’ve received about the audio quality of recent shows while actually having audio problems! It’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #130

A new Chillpak Hollywood Hour with almost ten percent more hour! Dean reveals why his voice is an octave deeper than normal. Phil reveals he’s watched something from Robot Chicken on Adult Swim! The more things change, though, the more they stay the same … The way risk management is stifling creativity in show business, the latest on celebrity extraditions and the idiocy of Jay Leno are all discussed and dissected. So, too, does Dean talk about his experience shooting a guest-starring role on Bones. Then Dean and Phil weigh in on the latest discoveries and realizations they’ve uncovered during the process of making The Truth Is Out There (their feature documentary about searching for the truth in a world of conspiracy), before finally turning their attention to a marijuana-related question submitted by a listener. Dean and Phil answer these questions because it is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, though they caution that each installment of the show is only to be used for medicinal purposes!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #107

Dean and Phil hint at some new photos that will be posted on thieir Facebook and MySpace pages before leaping into action, hitting such a wide variety of topics as the Air France flight that disappeared over the Atlantic, the Screen Actors Guild contract vote, the genius of Huell Howser, the passing of the torch at “The Tonight Show”, the changing landscape of broadcast television advertising revenues, and what went wrong with the Terminator franchise. It’s a lot to tackle, but Dean and Phil are up to the task. Heck, they even remember to reveal what they’ve been reading.
