Chillpak Hollywood Hour #558

This week’s show begins with an update on how the fierce, determined and ridiculously cute cat Fuzz Aldrin is recovering (you can help with that recovery by visiting http://gofundme.com/save-fuzz-aldrin”). She had to have another emergency procedure this week, which leads to a rather hilarious story about Lily Holleman, “Junior Pet Detective”. It also leads to a conversation about a surgical procedure Dean Haglund will be undergoing the first week of February. Then, Dean and Phil Leirness discuss movies – two “classics” (the comedy To Be or Not to Be and the musical Brigadoon), and five recent releases (Darren Aronosky’s Mother!, Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories, Dan Gilroy’s Roman J. Israel, Esq., Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water and the big winner at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MIssouri).

For the first time in weeks, your friends in podcasting tackle “Celebrity Deaths”, celebrating the life and careers of record producer Rick Hall, actress-singer Rose Marie and film noir icon Peggy Cummins. Then, they tackle the “small screen”, with Phil weighing in on the new Fox sitcom “LA to Vegas”, with Dean assessing the most recent “mirror universe” episode of “Star Trek: Discover” (“The Wolf Inside”), and the two of them discussing the thematic meanings of Season 11 of “The X-Files”, of the most recent episode (“Plus One”) and what the future might hold for the show with or without Gillian Anderson.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #455

One recent trip and the discovery of a 30 year-old document, led Phil Leirness to ruminate on the nature of nostalgia. He shares these thoughts with you … And speaking of nostalgia, a certain television franchise from the 1990′s has returned to the small screen. After having been very careful not to spoil anything in advance of its airing, Dean Haglund and Phil will weigh in on what we’ve seen thus far and will discuss (spoiler-free) on where the series is heading … And then, the main event! Following up on last week’s epic rundown on the best (and worst) of cinema in 2015, Dean and Phil start to reveal their top ten television shows of 2015.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #412

This week’s show finds Dean and Phil talking about what they’re reading (for the first time in ages) and Scandinavian history, novelist Rachel Cline, Scientology and Stanley Kubrick get discussed. The latest scuttlebutt on The X-Files return will disseminated. The David Lynch vs. Showtime game of chicken will be dissected. A new sketch comedy show on Netflix and a future episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour all about funny ladies will be previewed. A letter from a listener on last week’s show will be followed up on this week. And if you love movies, you won’t want to miss your friends in podcasting digging into more than ten new, recent and classic releases, including a documentary about an influential film critic, a box office juggernaut starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the directorial debut of Russell Crowe, a couple very interesting independent comedies, a classic sci-fi film noir, a live action Disney adaptation, a modern masterpiece of dark comedy, and an early contender for best film of the year! All that plus Easter events and “Live Events of the Week”! Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #403

A day late, but packed full of the irreverent podcasty goodness you’ve come to expect from your friends in podcasting, today’s free-wheeling show addresses the Super Bowl, its halftime show, the death of a legendary poet and a baseball icon, a controversy over the Hollywood sign, an hilarious stand-up performance by friend-of-the-show Pete Handelman, the rumors surrounding an Indiana Jones reboot, the latest on “The X-Files” reboot, which should be called a “sequel series”, an “Alphaville” remake and there’s the latest news pertaining to Dean and Phil’s film The Lady Killers and the forthcoming Sci-Fest. All that plus tips of the cap to Lily Holleman for her turn on “Shameless” and to Keira Knightley for her continued artistic growth.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #402

How great a year in film was 2014? So great that neither Dean nor Phil managed to find room on their Top Ten Lists for the likes of such highly recommended features as Selma, Inherent Vice, The Babadook, CitizenFour or Calvary.

What DID make their lists? Listen to the episode (all 72 minutes of it!) and find out!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #335

For six and a half years, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness have been changing the way people listen to the internet. That’s one of the reasons they’ve been dubbed “Podcast Royalty”.

On this week’s show, Dean and Phil iscuss what imapct podcasting might have on stand-up comedy. They also discuss what four visionaries had to say about the possibility of using the internet to communicate with … Animals!

Last week’s show was recorded live at the Los Angeles Podfest. This week, your friends in podcasting conduct a post-mortem and get into a discussion of how physically unhealthy so many comedians seem to be, especially in light of Craig Robinson’s latest drug arrest.

In “Celebrity Deaths”, Dean and Phil will remember two giants of Italian Cinema and a pioneer in talent representation.

Acclaimed international filmmaker Jim Sheridan became the latest the declare the death of Hollywood movies and Dean and Phil will analyze his statements, perhaps in context with three notable 2013 releases – Mud, Oblivion and Captain Phillips. Who knows, Dean might even have finally caught up with the juggernaut that is this season’s “ultimate thrill ride”, Gravity.

And speaking of thrill rides, a future “Lawsuit of the Week” may just involve what happened to 10 people on a roller coaster in Orlando, Florida …

All that, and much much more, including the possibility that Christopher Columbus saw a UFO!

This week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!
