Chillpak Hollywood Hour #594

It’s the penultimate episode of the Australian Era of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and your friends in podcasting are offering something for everyone on this particularly nourishing and personal installment. First Dean Haglund shares a bit about what he will miss about being “Down Under” and regales with descriptions of some of his favorite places in Australia. Then, Phil Leirness shares an email from a loyal listener like you (yes, YOU) about editing techniques, a continuation of a discussion about how editing affects actors’ performances that began on last week’s show. Somehow both fascism and democracy get discussed in the context of film editing! From there, Phil celebrates the 25th Anniversary of “The X-Files” by asking Dean about his favorite episodes and who his favorite character is (other than “Langley”, of course). Dean’s answers might just delight you! Then, Dean and Phil weigh in on how the show’s influence is still being felt on television today in shows as disparate as Vince Gilligan’s “Better Call Saul” and NBC’s sitcom “The Good Place”. The final “Lawsuit of the Week” of the intercontinental era is a re-visitation of Shari Redstone’s efforts to re-merge CBS with Paramount and what the failure to do so means for the companies and for their flagship franchise, “Star Trek”. The show concludes with a fascinating discussion of prolific television writer, producer and show-runner Gregory Berlanti’s hit feature film Love, Simon. The film’s themes are celebrated, and what the film’s style says about the state of, and future of, big-screen storytelling is questioned.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #354

Forgive us if the sound quality of this week’s show is a little shaky … With missed flights and broken laptops, it’s amazing we managed to get a new show produced this week at all (and closer to our usual Monday release than the past two weeks).

From the stumbling opening, to the less than elegant closing, your friends in podcasting are flying without a net this week. There’s no chance to edit or smooth out the audio levels.

The conversation is classic Chillpak, however, touching on topics ranging from the death of Harold Ramis to the careers of Boris Karloff and Preston Sturgess, from deadly on-set accidents to the difference between “victims” and survivors”, from Dean’s road trip with Billy Dee Williams to how the Oscar nominees for best picture rate in terms of their roles for women.

Don’t delay, enjoy YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour NOW!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #302

It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour’s annual Post-Oscar smackdown.

Hear Dean and Phil’s analysis and hilarious criticism of Hollywood’s big night, hear them reveal each other’s predictions on who would win the 24 Oscar categories, and hear the stakes of their wager on the outcome.

Year after year, it’s one of our most popular episodes.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
