Chillpak Hollywood Hour #510

On this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, remembrance of Al Jarreau leads to a discussion of artistic integrity vs. commercial success, and a discussion of the television “bubble” leads to a discussion of what the proliferation of quality episodic entertainment means for movies. In between, Dean and Phil will discuss such films as Cemetery of Splendour, Inferno, Passengers and Split as well as forthcoming remakes and adaptations of such classics as Network, Out of Africa, Bullitt, Every Which Way But Loose, as well as the impressive new career arc Keanu Reeves is carving out for himself.

Dean has spent the weekend at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo and he provides a report before he and and Phil remember Anton Yelchin in “Celebrity Deaths”. Phil, meanwhile, saw what might be the WORST live event since they started covering “Live Events of the Week”! He provides some of the hilarious details. There will be discussions of television, like “Man in the High Castle” and the cancellation of “The Grinder” as well as news about a new Phillip K. Dick series AND a series based on the movie “Buckaroo Banzai” There will be a discussion of several movies, including a new espionage thriller based on a John Le Carre novel, a current Cannes Jury Prize winner, the recent “Alice Through the Looking Glass” disaster, and the completely overlooked western from earlier this year, “Jane Got a Gun”. All that, plus the show kicks off with your friends in podcasting revealing their favorite toys from growing up!.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #380

Love a good rant? Phil Leirness has you covered, taking on everything from the Ice Bucket Challenge to “Dr. Who” to Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide to Helen Mirren and The Hundred-Foot Journey!

It’s all in good fun, though, and he and Dean Haglund also weigh in on Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Philip Seymour’s last completed performance in A Most Wanted Man, listener Andrew Burt’s PhD exams, their favorite Robin Williams roles and no doubt, a little bit more.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
