Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 2 Episode 105

Your friends in podcasting (AND broadcasting!) have quite the week to discuss! As the holidays approach, and Covid-19 dashes Dean’s travel plans, Awards Season in Hollywood gets underway. The National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners of the best in cinema for 2021, and a consensus has begun to form through critics Top Ten lists about the best of the year in television. Dean and Phil discuss it all. They also try to make sense of the latest in the accidental shooting on the set of “Rust”. A whole lot of classic films get discussed, including which films may have best depicted what life in America was really like in the mid-1980’s. A new documentary series about The Beatles from Peter Jackson gets reviewed and four actors and a musician get remembered in our penultimate installment of “Celebrity Deaths” for 2021. If nothing else, you will learn that the movie Beau Geste is NOT the movie Gunga Din and director Wim Wenders is NOT director Werner Herzog.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 2 Episode 83

The USA celebrated its independence this weekend, but the fireworks continue on this brand new installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour! Dean shares a hysterical story about the making of a film he did many years back. Then he and Phil discuss in detail a wide array of movies, including a silent classic from Hitchcock, a current horror sequel, a masterpiece of surrealism from a Swedish filmmaker who has emerged as a titan of world cinema, and a low-budget sci-fi film from last year that was among 2020’s best. Plus, Phil wants to talk about a new TCM neo-noir series and a classic from 1967 starring Lee Marvin, but even more than that, he wants to talk about a conversation he had with longtime TCM host Ben Mankiewicz at a memorial for 106 year old legend Norman Lloyd. Phil also shares anecdotes involving many of the notables in attendance, including an Oscar-winning director, and the great grandson of one the most famous artists of all time, and Elliot Gould! All that, plus Dean is doing a show about haunted houses?!

Long before Dean Haglund was the host of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour and even before he was “Langly” on a certain television series, Dean was “Spock” in a long-running, live musical stage version of “Star Trek” in Vancouver, B.C. Like his Vulcan first officer, the “Kirk” from that show also went onto great success in a long-running sci-fi television franchise …

Actor, writer, improv comic and voice artist Gary Jones is perhaps best known for playing “Sgt. Walter Harriman” on “Stargate SG-1”, “Stargate: Atlantis” and “SGU Stargate Universe”. For years, we’ve been trying to get him onto the show and schedules have never alligned.

This week, we’ve got him on a long layover from Australia and he’s armed with hilarious stories about “Stargate”, Peter Deluise, Dean Haglund, Katharine Hepburn, Nick Nolte and there’s even an hilarious recurring joke about Rae Dawn Chong! What other show can claim that?!
