Making every Monday night merry and bright since before many of you were even born, your friends in podcasting and broadcasting hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Christmas. Unless you don’t celebrate Christmas, in which case, Dean and Phil hope you are having an awesome Monday! Among the many topics to be enjoyed in this week’s audio stocking stuffer are an honor being bestowed upon one of the most important directors of “The X-Files”, the brilliance of actors Jamie Foxx and Mahershala Ali, two of the best Christmas films of all time (and both are brand new theatrical releases!), animated superhero movies, Netflix movies, a UK Northern Soul legend, a star of TV’s “Route 66”, and the Detroit art scene.

Last week, Dean and Phil discussed the ten films nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, the ten films released in 2022 that earned the most revenue at the domestic U.S. box office, and the ten (or twelve) or so films the critics have come to consensus on as the best of the year. This week, it’s Dean and Phil’s turn! They will revel their Top Tens, as they count down what might be the films they consider the best, the most groundbreaking, the most important, or just their favorites of the year.

Because Phil Leirness is in the nation’s capital, he and Dean Haglund, pre-recorded this week’s show and it is hilarious! The first half deals with Dean’s recent road trip across the frozen tundra of America, as he, his better half, his Doberman puppy, and his cat, faced arduous conditions as they traveled from L.A. to the Motor City. The second half deals with the all-important “season of self-congratulation” in Hollywood, which reaches fever pitch with this week’s announcement of the Academy Award nominations. Your friends in podcasting discuss the folly of taking the Golden Globes seriously, while also praising some of the winners. They also analyze whether the Oscars matter any more when it comes to how Best Picture winners are viewed by history. The open road and movies. This week, on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
