Chillpak Hollywood Hour #528

After several weeks, order is restored in the world of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, as Dean Haglund is back in Australia and Phil Leirness is back in Los Angeles. There is much for your friends in podcasting to catch up on, including remembrances of Roger Moore and Adam West, a trip to the Museum of Neon Art, a description of the best play on Broadway, Dean’s travel adventures, the details on his upcoming art show, and an email from a listener like no other about the lightning and thunder sounds heard on last week’s show, which leads into several bizarre and even scary tales.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #527

Next week, your friends in podcasting will be back doing what they do best, trying to make sense of the world through insight, inspiration and irreverence. Because they are both still on the road, however, THIS week’s episode is another aural pastiche …

Lily Holleman joins Phil to discuss Route 66, her new movie, the return of “Twin Peaks” and what it was like to befriend The Lone Gunmen in Dallas. And speaking of The Lone Gunmen (in Dallas), the 2nd half of the show is a panel discussion, where Dean, Tom and Bruce answer questions from a moderator and from an audience.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #477

It’s independence day in the USA and, though by no mean’s a theme show, this week’s show touches on many issues pertaining to American history …

… It all starts with Dean telling a story about North Bend, Washington (i.e. the town of “Twin Peaks”). Then, there is a touching letter from a loyal listener like you (yes, YOU). and the show continues with remembrances of a Nobel Laureate, a groundbreaking coach and two noted film directors in “Celebrity Deaths”, before seguing into great acting and directing tips (courtesy of Peter Falk) in “What We’re Reading”. Then, talk of Dean’s new comedy venue leads into a discussion of #Brexit, the appeal (to some) of Donald Trump, the retirement of Garrison Keillor and many themes are explored, from the opportunities that arise in times of chaos to the ways these American states really ARE “united” … All in all, it’s a globe-trotting adventure of good conversation on this week’s show, and THEN, your friends in podcasting leave the confines of Terra Firma and explore the possibility (likelihood) of alien civilizations and the importance of Jupiter to our existence!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #473

After 2 weeks with special guests, your friends in podcasting are back with an hour of freewheeling, spirited, irreverent and insightful conversation. Topics include the death of Muhammad Ali, a book about the purpose of corporations, a great essay (by a brilliant writer) in defense of David Lynch (and indirectly of Dean and Phil’s movie “The Lady Killers”). The first month of the summer movie season is analyzed, a great new documentary film about stand-up comedy is discussed, Dean’ updates his fine art and comedy endeavors, and Phil describes his trip to Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi as well as his exploration of Route 66.

Get your kicks!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #471

Right before exploring the Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave in North Western New Mexico, Phil Leirness touches base with Dean Haglund (who’s down under, of course), before Dean welcomes a special guest, Steven-Elliot Altman. Steven-Elliot is an author, graphic novelist, producer, screenwriter and video game writer-director whose latest game is based on the television series Ancient Aliens.

Aliens, UFOs, Sherlock Holmes, sci-fi novels and more on this week’s brand new episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #123

Vince Gilligan spent Sunday night at the Emmy Awards, where his Breaking Bad leading man, Bryan Cranston, won the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series (for the second year in a row!). Today, Vince Gilligan, creator of the series (as well as a hugely admired writer-producer of films like Hancock and television series like The X-Files), is back with Dean and Phil for part two of their conversation. Also, Phil shares with Dean an idea for a film-making symposium he would like to bring to fan conventions. Is this too much for one show? Nah. In fact, it’s as simple as (Chillpak Hollywood Hour) 1-2-3 …

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #122

Dean and Phil begin this week’s show by wrapping up DragonCon, sharing some of their more bizarre, amusing and inspiring experiences. They then welcome a very special guest for the first part of a two-part interview. Vince Gilligan was one of the most prolific and respected writers and producers on The X-Files (as well as its spin-off series, The Lone Gunmen). He wrote the motion pictures Wilder Napalm, Home Fries and Hancock. Now, he’s earning great accolades for his work on the AMC original series Breaking Bad, which he created.

That’s a hell of a lot of show for one hour, but what do you expect? This IS your Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance.
