Chillpak Hollywood Hour #461

On this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Dean Haglund discusses his current comedy show, his forthcoming show at an international comedy festival, and what has become of the show he used to host back in Los Angeles. A former First Lady and a musical great are remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” and Phil Leirness remembers what it was like to live in Los Angeles during the O.J. Simpson trial in the wake of the recent news surrounding that case. This serves as a perfect segue-way to talk about both the FX miniseries depicting that time in our history and the Will Smith vehicle, “Concussion” about long-lasting brain injuries caused by playing football. Paul Feig’s delightful “Other Space” has been championed on the show and this week, Dean and Phil will share whether there will ever be any more episodes produced. Meanwhile, the first official trailer for Feig’s all-female reboot of “Ghostbusters” was released and it was … Astonishingly awful. Of course, “astonishingly awful” would be a major step up for the trailers and commercials advertising “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” a film that has its distributor, Warner Bros., very worried and scrambling for a new way to launch their hopeful “Justice League” cinematic franchise. Dean and Phil will get into the nitty gritty inner workings and machinations of a legendary Hollywood studio in free fall. All that, plus a letter from a loyal listener about Canada’s support of female filmmakers is shared and much, much more!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #460

We apologize if this week’s episode might seem a little bit … confusing … Or confused … It was edited together from a long skype conversation your friends in podcasting had during last week’s Oscar telecast, a conversation that spawned last week’s show about the Spirit Awards and about the all-time Oscar snubs as well as the worst all-time Oscar winners (in a variety of categories). This week, more than a half dozen current cinematic releases and one prominent sci-film from the 1990′s get discussed and a big-screen adaptation of a classic sci-fi novel is previewed. The revival of “The X-Files” is analyzed, especially what they got right and where they go from here. And because it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Dean and Phil discuss a listener’s tweet exchange with Phil about the new “Star Trek” series, another listener’s email about the lack of diversity in Hollywood and an honorary member of the Chillpak family’s message weighing in on the merits of the Hulu series “11.22.63″. All that, and no doubt, plenty of laughs. Buckle up and enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #458

After weeks of special “theme” shows, shows with guests and shows that looked backwards, your friends in podcasting return to the wild grab bag of show business, trying to make sense of a world gone wild and trying, in some cases, to predict the future! Dean and Phil received a disturbing email from a listener. Phil had the curious experience of seeing his girlfriend from film school become the top trending news topic on Facebook. Dean is gearing up for his performances at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Dean and Phil weigh in on “The X-Files” revival (especially the episode “Babylon”). And speaking of revivals, Dean and Phil tackle the news of the “Star Trek” and “Thunderbirds” revivals and Phil predicts a future “Lawsuit of the Week”. Phil asks Dean more about “Other Space” and the new JJ Abrams series on Hulu starring James Franco (from the mind of Stephen King). Of course, the Oscars are fast approaching and Dean and Phil cover the latest on the ‪#‎oscarsowhite‬ controversy, and Phil tells two great stories about the “Best Director” award, one involving an infamous “snub”, the other involving one of this year’s nominees. Finally, this extra-long installment concludes as two legendary authors are remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #456

If you haven’t listened to last week’s episode #455, make sure to do so BEFORE you check out this week’s barnd new show. Your friends in podcasting pick up where they left off as both Dean and Phil will reveal their Top Four favorite television series of 2015 (10 thru 5 were counted down last week). After that, Phil explains why he is so thrilled about the sequel to Blade Runner that is finally going before the cameras this summer, and in “Celebrity Deaths” one of the most important entertainment figures in Asia and a beloved American character actor are both remembered. Dean and Phil then tackle Hollywood’s award season, including analysis of the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild Awards, before launching into the LATEST controversy over the Oscars’ lack of diversity (‪#‎oscarsowhite‬). Boycotts generate headlines, membership changes … change the membership. Real change, however, might involve actually changing the awards themselves and your friends in podcasting have some serious ideas in this regard, changes that will reward those unsung in the business for too long, refocus the purpose of the awards AND might just lead to greater diversity. That’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
