Chillpak Hollywood Hour #578

A long-promised “Top Ten” show proved to be so fascinating to your friends in podcasting that they turned it into a 2-part epic! Boasting films from (almost?) every decade of feature filmmaking, this week’s installment will begin the countdown of Dean and Phil’s All-Time Top Ten Comedy Films! There are bound to be crowd-pleasing favorites, silent classics, independent gems and studio blockbusters. So, keep those Netflix queues handy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #383

It’s too darn hot in Los Angeles and your friends in podcasting are high as proverbial kites on codeine swirl frappuccinos!

Dean performed in a “Live Event of the Week” and this fact leads to a discussion of public transportation, the immune system and Biddy Mason.

Phil spent all week (and the week before that) trying to get their new film submitted to Sundance, and in the process watch documentaries about The Magnificent Seven, Sam Peckinpah and Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory. He also saw the last film to star the great James Gandolfini (and boasting merely the latest indelible performance from the masterful Tom Hardy).

Two “Lawsuits of the Week” are discussed, which leads to analysis of sexual abuse in Hollywood, domestic violence in professional football and the role of interns in show business.

A great comic and a legendary big-screen villain are remembered.

All that, plus much more … Pass the Chillpak. It’s too darn hot!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #381

Nikki Finke has disappeared from her new website and Phil tackles her disappearance and takes on something called “The Committee for Decency in Journalism”.

Listener Barry Murphy sent a great article to us about Robin Williams and his guest star appearance on “Homicide: Life on the Street”. Your friends in podcasting share its contents.

Then, Dean and Phil follow-up on Phil’s diatribe last week against “Dr. Who” and really dig into the source of Phil’s “blind spot” preventing him from seeing the appeal of the show. Thanks to Stephen D. Fowler (of the Smoking All-Stars) and Jimmy Lawlor for their indelible contributions to this week’s discussion of the good doctor.

Finally, Dean and Phil remember and offer fond farewells to two accomplished actors-turned filmmakers and one legendary voice.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #380

Love a good rant? Phil Leirness has you covered, taking on everything from the Ice Bucket Challenge to “Dr. Who” to Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide to Helen Mirren and The Hundred-Foot Journey!

It’s all in good fun, though, and he and Dean Haglund also weigh in on Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Philip Seymour’s last completed performance in A Most Wanted Man, listener Andrew Burt’s PhD exams, their favorite Robin Williams roles and no doubt, a little bit more.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #330

After spending 20 hours a day for more than a month working on their new feature film The Lady Killers (which needs YOUR help!), Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness are back to co-hosting the type of show long-time listeners have come to expect … Namely, a free-wheeling, often insightful, occasionally inspirational and frequently irreverent discussion about anything going on in the world that has their attention and how that topic is depicted in the media …

This week’s topics include the fate of the Chillpak, the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman, the casting of James Spader in “Avengers 2″, the casting of Peter Capaldi as Dr. Who, the civil war in Syria, the disastrous summer of 2013 for movies, crowd-sourcing and much, much more …

Here’s a thought: Don’t just enjoy YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Share it with friends!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
