Chillpak Hollywood Hour #587

This week’s episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is a lot of fun. A hockey great and a beloved 80′s sitcom star get remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”. The news concerning the real-life “Brady Bunch” house in Studio City and major changes to the Oscars telecast get reported and dissected. A recent hit-man thriller, a current, hilarious and suspenseful indie comedy-drama, a classic 1970 comedy war film and a current Lionsgate “digital” release starring Guy Pearce and Pierce Brosnan all get discussed. All that, plus there is on-air planning of Phil’s upcoming bachelor party!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #446

Dean Haglund shares news of his weekly pay-per-laughs improv show where he performs an expisode of “The X-Files” live on-stage in Sydney. Phil Leirness reports on his visit to the restored, remodeled and re-opened Los Angeles landmark Clifton’s Cafeteria. Phil then gets on a soapbox about the true purpose of Thanksgiving and the true meaning of gratitude. A legend of Japanese cinema is remembered. A classic of sci-fi cinema is celebrated … And then, your friends in podcasting rush headlong into “the season of self-congratulation”, a time when award-hopeful movies are released en masse and award nominations and film critic top ten lists are announced almost daily. This week, award hopefuls like “Bridge of Spies”, “The Danish Girl” and “The Big Short” and box office blockbusters like “Spectre” are discussed and the Spirit Award nominations (for the best in independent film) are analyzed.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #401

Phil is finishing up two feature-length motion pictures. Dean appeared in two live shows. Together they are talking about those activities, answering emails from listeners like you, tackling the lack of diversity in the recently announced Academy Award nominations and taking on some of the worst films of the year.

And if they need ten percent more hour to get it all in, well who’s going to complain? It’s just six more minutes of Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness changing the way you listen to the internet!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #381

Nikki Finke has disappeared from her new website and Phil tackles her disappearance and takes on something called “The Committee for Decency in Journalism”.

Listener Barry Murphy sent a great article to us about Robin Williams and his guest star appearance on “Homicide: Life on the Street”. Your friends in podcasting share its contents.

Then, Dean and Phil follow-up on Phil’s diatribe last week against “Dr. Who” and really dig into the source of Phil’s “blind spot” preventing him from seeing the appeal of the show. Thanks to Stephen D. Fowler (of the Smoking All-Stars) and Jimmy Lawlor for their indelible contributions to this week’s discussion of the good doctor.

Finally, Dean and Phil remember and offer fond farewells to two accomplished actors-turned filmmakers and one legendary voice.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #355

Hollywood's longest night of the year results in one of the longest episodes of the year at YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

And unlike the Oscars, the 72 minutes brought to you by your friends in podcasting are full of surprises, full of irreverence and full of insight.

Oh, yeah, and there's the usual wagering between Dean and Phil, only this year, they don't find out what they stand to lose until the end of the show!

Boasting two special guests, it's our annual Oscar smackdown! Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #336

The fall television season is in full swing and it’s time to declare winners and losers, so your friends in podcasting have it covered, the shows that are hits and those that are about to be canceled (if they haven’t been already!). They also talk about the Univision remake of “Breaking Bad” and how impressed Sir Anthony Hopkins is with Bryan Cranston’s work in the original.

Speaking of television, Dean and Phil will examine the possibility of a future incarnation on the big/small screens of “The X-Files” as well as the currently underway reboot of “Remington Steele”.

Fall also means we’re approaching the awards season here in Hollywood, a time when the movie industry puts its best product into the marketplace. A Vanity Fair piece described 2013 as possibly the best year in movies since 1939. Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness will discuss this assertion and examine the merits of a handful of new (or future) releases.

Plus, Dean and Phil will discuss the way AMC theatres might just be changing the way you feel about going to the movies.

Finally, your friends in podcasting explain one of the eight ways your brain lies to you every day!

All that, and much more, on this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #308

After a follow-up question from a loyal listener about last week’s show, your friends in podcasting leap around the world, covering comedy, painting, poetry, movies, theatre, novels, puppetry and mental illness!

Full of insight, inspiration and irreverence, it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #173

It’s Labor Day here in the U.S. A national holiday, plus a bicycle trip through France for Dean and editorial deadlines for Phil, can only mean that it’s time for a pre-recorded “theme” show. Longtime listeners will remember Chillpak Hollywood Hour #13. The majority of listeners who have come to the show more recently and who have tried to catch up on all the past shows will know that Episode #13 was truly unlucky in that only the first six minutes or so of it still exist! So, after finishing a discussion about movie remakes, started last week and inspired by an email from a listener like you (yes, YOU!), your friends in podcasting finally make amends for that “missing” episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, by spending most of this week’s show discussing the world of James Bond! Dean and Phil compare notes on their favorite 007 adventures, as well as comparing their tastes to those of the viewing public. Here’s hoping this special show all about Bond-age will leave you both shaken AND stirred!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #13

It’s the summer of 2007. The summer of ‘07. No, it’s the summer of 007! Dean and Phil go deep into the world of Bond. Enjoy! WARNING: NOT A COMPLETE EPISODE! In fact, it’s only 5 and a half minutes … Finding out what happened to the rest of it is certainly an assignment worthy of … Bond. James Bond.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
