Your friends in podcasting celebrate the life of the woman who broke the news about the start of World War II and the life of a man who redefined literary and cinematic terror (and turned a certain staircase in Georgetown into a major tourist attraction). Then, after sharing some thoughts about a childhood friend who died this past week, Phil follows up on last week’s show by sharing with Dean some thoughts about “Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds” and sharing a story about how George Michael (and Wham!) helped inspire one of the most famous songs by The Smiths. There will also be much discussion of television, from the return of “Sherlock” and the news surrounding “The Man in the High Castle” to the Producers Guild Award nominations and a forthcoming show set backstage at “The Tonight Show” in the 1970′s. Finally, Phil gets on his soapbox as he and Dean address the controversy surrounding Meryl Streep’s speech at the Golden Globes and the overwhelming accolades being bestowed upon La La Land. All that, plus a frank discussion about “perceived vegetative states” AND a ton of laughs on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!
Dean Haglund is flying back to Australia right now, but before he left Los Angeles, he dropped by a certain historic building to visit Phil Leirness and to discuss the lives (and deaths) of Sharon Jones, Gwen Ifill, Florence Henderson, Ron Glass and Fidel Castro. Dean and Phil also compare notes on a great stand-up comedy performance they witnessed at The Los Angeles Breakfast Club. Speaking of stand-up, Dean performed stand-up at Big & Tall presents BARK, while Phil was attending a media preview of The Queen Mary’s CHILL and all these events get described. A hilarious discussion of the new “4D” method of exhibiting films leads your friends in podcasting into a free-wheeling discussion of such movies as “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, “Jackie”, “Hidden Figures”, “Nocturnal Animals”, “La La Land”, and “Rules Don’t Apply”. We’ve received a lot of great feedback and messages from listeners of late, and one such message involves the topic of diversity on television, a question Dean and Phil tackle briefly before setting it on the agenda for next week’s show …
Phil is still on the road, so much like last week, there is only going to be a brief conversation between he and Dean at the top of this week’s show, before an interview Phil conducted with a special guest, a guest who serves as a perfect follow-up to the interview Dean conducted on last week’s show!

Today is the day the annual movie awards season comes to a merciful conclusion and your friends in podcasting stick the final nail in its coffin with their annual review of the Oscars telecast wherein they reveal who they predicted would win in all 24 categories. As always, there’s a wager involved and for the 2nd year running, you’ll be treated to some classic clips from Academy Awards presentations past. And now, the envelope, please …
Maybe it’s because this show was recorded on Sunday, rather than Monday, but this is one of the most unusual episodes of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour in a while … Hilarious … And unusual.
Consider that your friends in podcasting take on such a wide range of topics as the death of a “Glee” star, spooky Vancouver hotels, the price of heroin in Canada, the Trayvon Martin trial, the top ten most successful stand-up comics working today, San Diego Comic-Con, season ten of “The X-Files”, the sanity of conspiracy theorists vs. the sanity of those who believe official versions of history, the intern revolt in the entertainment industry and the boycott against the film version of Ender’s Game.
All that, plus a special movie theme tune keeps finding its way into the mix.
Now, sit back, relax and enjoy 64 minutes that will change the way you listen to the internet!
What do the Mayan Calendar, David Lynch, Lyle Skosey, Sarah Nean Bruce, fire alarms, veterinarians, Jacques Cousteau, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Phil’s birthdays have in common? Why, episode #260 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, of course!
5 years in the making … It’s our 5th Anniversary show!

Phil just got back from two weeks in Northern California, so Dean and he have almost too much show for one hour! From utilizing Phil’s training as a Violence Prevention Specialist in discussing issues of relationship violence as they pertain to Chris Brown and Rihanna … To answering a question from loyal listener The Sicillian about casting directors and the auditioning prcoess … From discussing the late Ron Silver’s claims that his career was unjustly derailed due to his own conservative politics … To the continued in-fighting between factions vying for control of the economic sinking ship that is (or used to be) the Screen Actors Guild … This Chillpak Hollywood Hour is so filled with hard-hitting news analysis, you’ll swear you’re listening to NPR.
Phil just got back from rubbing elbows with the D.C. social set. Dean stayed in town and hit a Hollywood party and hit it hard based on the stories he shares (Fran Drescher? Poop? Three bottles of champagne?). In addition to comparing notes on their holiday hijinx, Dean and Phil discuss the many films they’ve seen during the past two weeks. Phil saw several foreign language films, including a couple of fantastic ones you won’t want to miss. Dean reveals he saw The Spirit. This makes Phil very angry. Truth be told, though, from the Screen Actors Guild to Proposition 8, from people not knowing history to Dean’s viewing habits, Phil really comes out swinging … The boys are back and 2009 can finally begin!
From Lindsay Lohan taking on Sarah Palin to David Duchovny entering rehab for a sex addiction to the non-stop stupidity of the two parties vying for control of the Screen Actors Guild, Dean and Phil have a whole lot of celebrity behavior to discuss in their latest action-packed episode!
Grab the aloe and join us poolside!
We have a brand new name – Chillpak Hollywood Hour – But it’s the same irreverent Dean Haglund and potty-mouthed, soapbox-standing Phil Leirness.
Dean regales us with hysterical stories of this past weekend’s Dragon-Con and Phil satirizes the current election that is full of partisanship and petty bickering – That’s the Screen Actors Guild election!
