Chillpak Hollywood Hour #599

Now that Dean once again lives in the USA, he and Phil will be recording YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour on Monday mornings! This week, they compare notes on the Steve Martin-Martin Short touring stage show, and share thoughts about the recent spate of re-booted television series of yesteryear and those reboots recently announced. The lives of a “swamp rock” legend, a WW II “Monuments Man”, the inventor of green bean casserole, the greatest trumpeter of his generation, and Phil’s all-time favorite baseball player will be remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”. Then, grab the popcorn because your friends in podcasting have a bunch of disparate cinematic offerings to discuss, from horror classics like Nosferatu and The Wolf Man to such contemporary releases as Bohemian Rhapsody, Boy Erased, A Private War, and Orson Welles’ The Other Side of the Wind.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #404

Brian Williams lies. Hollywood remakes or reboots EVERYTHING. Phil drops a ton of professional football knowledge on Dean. Dean tries to explain whether the film Asylum is real and if it is, whether he is really in it! Phil waxes rhapsodic about the filmmaking collaboration that resulted in Chinatown. Dean and Phil remember a classic film noir femme fatale. Dean tells his Minority Report story. AGAIN.

Has the whole world gone mad? Nope. It’s just another action-packed installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #105

It’s all movies on this week’s episode! Dean and Phil start by running down the top ten grossing films thus far in 2009 and the list is a real head-scratcher. Phil hadn’t even heard of one of the films! They then discuss the films they’ve seen during the past week, including a very good documentary, a fantastic foreign film, and they even add a few more comments to the Star Trek discussion, before turning their attention to X-Men Origins:Wolverine, posing the question, “just how far – and how fast – can a franchise fall?” That brings up the latest Terminator, of course, and from there, Dean and Phil preview all the films coming out over the next four weeks, from the hopeful blockbusters to the quality independents, foreign language films and edgy dramas that hope to catch on as counter-programming at the multiplexes. From what we’ve seen Summer of 2009 is where audiences learn the disastrous effects of the writer’s guild strike of ‘07, when many films were rushed into production without workable scripts!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #80

Dean and Phil are off to Olandar tonight for a special reading of Phil’s new screenplay, but before they go, they’ve checked into the offices to record a special birthday episode. Join Dean in helping Phil celebrate as Phil turns The New 30! Dean also catches us up on the latest adventures filming Rough Hustle on location in Nevada. Dean and Phil discuss the James Bond franchise, the “Star Trek” franchise and Twilight. They also briefly touch on the impending Screen Actors Guild strike. Forgive a few occasional glitches in audio quality during the show. They don’t last long and we promise to get to the bottom of things once we sober up from Phil’s birthday celebrations!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
