Chillpak Hollywood Hour #540

Even though the Emmy Awards celebrating Television took place last night, your friends in podcasting spend the entire hour (and ten minutes) talking movies. First, they start by celebrating the life and career of the singular Harry Dean Stanton. Then, they discuss misogyny and sexual assault in the movie exhibition business. Finally, Dean and Phil tackle a wide range of cinematic endeavors, including two surrealist (absurdist?) classics by Luis Bunuel, a late classic western by Sam Peckinpah, an all-star war film from the 1970′s, the restored director’s cut of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and an Alfred Hitchcock comedy. Pass the popcorn – We’re talking movies!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #415

We’re only two episodes away from the end of year 8 and only five episodes away from Dean Haglund’s move to Australia, yet your friends in podcasting have more to discuss than ever before! From a full report on the preview screening of their new dark comedy, to the latest news regarding Sci-Fest, from the latest rumblings about the return of The X-Files to Phil’s heartfelt thank you and farewell to a film critic who played a major role in his development as an artist, this week’s installment is quite personal to Dean and Phil.

There is a ton of talk about current television (like Mad Men, Daredevil, and the countdown to David Letterman’s final show) and future television (an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, the Twin Peaks reboot, and perhaps the most exciting new show to be announced in AGES!). There is also much attention to paid to forthcoming movies, including ill-advised remakes and reboots, and maybe a film or two worthy of optimism!

Dean and Phil follow up on their (enormously popular) discussion of female-driven films (episode #413), with a discussion of two emerging female musical artists. All that, plus the latest dirt Phil has learned about Scientology AND not one, not two, not three, but FOUR emails from listeners like you! Want to learn about IMDb? Want to learn about Dean and Phil’s favorite cookies? Then, stop reading and start enjoying this thrilling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #412

This week’s show finds Dean and Phil talking about what they’re reading (for the first time in ages) and Scandinavian history, novelist Rachel Cline, Scientology and Stanley Kubrick get discussed. The latest scuttlebutt on The X-Files return will disseminated. The David Lynch vs. Showtime game of chicken will be dissected. A new sketch comedy show on Netflix and a future episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour all about funny ladies will be previewed. A letter from a listener on last week’s show will be followed up on this week. And if you love movies, you won’t want to miss your friends in podcasting digging into more than ten new, recent and classic releases, including a documentary about an influential film critic, a box office juggernaut starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the directorial debut of Russell Crowe, a couple very interesting independent comedies, a classic sci-fi film noir, a live action Disney adaptation, a modern masterpiece of dark comedy, and an early contender for best film of the year! All that plus Easter events and “Live Events of the Week”! Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #117

A.O. Scott and Michael Phillips might have just been named as the new co-hosts of At the Movies, the long-running movie review program started by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, but they have already given this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, “Two big thumbs up! Way up!” We have no idea what this means, however, we do know that this show is for the movie lovers in our audience. And if those movies are porn versions of The X-Files, gory vampire films, documentaries about food, irreverent satires, existential dramas, surreal comedies, science-fiction allegories, period pieces, or kick-ass World War II action epics, or all of the aforementioned, or even if you just want inspired and inspiring conversation, this week’s show will have your two thumbs beside themselves with joy!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
