Chillpak Hollywood Hour #561

In a fascinating and very funny installment of your Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness begin by catching up on some of the many “Celebrity Deaths” from early this year that you might not have heard about! Not only that, but for the first time ever, they turn these celebrations into a sort of game show. As they discuss doing just that there is a few second-long audio glitch, so bear with us. Also, Phil promises to go easy on snacking during future episodes!

A female TV cop, the Emmy award-winning brother of Dick Van Dyke, the Queen of the Blues, the detective who investigated the Zodiac killer case, a classic heavy metal guitarist, the last remaining original Mouseketeer, the voice of college football, and the first female US general are all remembered. Then Marc Hershon rejoins your friends in podcasting for the 2nd half of the show to discuss hilarious stories about his career in corporate branding, his career as a comedy impresario (replete with stories of big stars), depictions of improv and stand-up comics in film and TV, and robots!

You’ll be laughing so much, the insight of some of the discussion might just sneak up on you!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #336

The fall television season is in full swing and it’s time to declare winners and losers, so your friends in podcasting have it covered, the shows that are hits and those that are about to be canceled (if they haven’t been already!). They also talk about the Univision remake of “Breaking Bad” and how impressed Sir Anthony Hopkins is with Bryan Cranston’s work in the original.

Speaking of television, Dean and Phil will examine the possibility of a future incarnation on the big/small screens of “The X-Files” as well as the currently underway reboot of “Remington Steele”.

Fall also means we’re approaching the awards season here in Hollywood, a time when the movie industry puts its best product into the marketplace. A Vanity Fair piece described 2013 as possibly the best year in movies since 1939. Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness will discuss this assertion and examine the merits of a handful of new (or future) releases.

Plus, Dean and Phil will discuss the way AMC theatres might just be changing the way you feel about going to the movies.

Finally, your friends in podcasting explain one of the eight ways your brain lies to you every day!

All that, and much more, on this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #210

According to Harold Camping, Saturday 21 May was Judgment Day, so all of us who are still here must be damned! Which only seems appropriate as your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness had one HELL of a good time at the US premiere of their film The Truth Is Out There at The Retro Dome in San Jose. After the screening was completed, Dean and Phil took the stage for this LIVE installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour … Hilarity, special guests, audience questions, Phil’s tears … It’s the end of the world as we know it!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #209

Somehow, your friends in podcasting manage to weave a discussion of do-it-yourself approaches to life, work and learning with a conversation about fine art and painting while still managing to discuss President Obama, birth certificates, Alexander Payne’s Election and Ashton Kutcher. It’s fun, it’s free-wheeling and it’s a good warm up for Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness as they prepare to record YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour LIVE from The Retro Dome in San Jose, immediately following the US Premiere of The Truth Is Out There this Saturday night. Get your tickets exclusively here.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #208

A week ago, your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, were in the United Kingdom, visiting their friends at Sci-Fi-London, celebrating the Royal Wedding, attending the World Premiere of their documentary The Truth Is Out There and discussing the death of Osama Bin Laden. This week, they’re back in Los Angeles, where Dean is preparing his brand new gallery for this Thursday’s Downtown Art Walk and where Phil is directing an incredibly ambitious short film. Most important of all, they’re celebrating their 4th anniversary of changing the way YOU listen to the internet!

That’s right, this is our 4th anniversary show. And if such a thing as a wish accompanies such a milestone, Dean and Phil’s wish is that no matter where in the world you are, you help spread the word about the U.S. Premiere of The Truth Is Out There, which takes place at the Retro Dome in San Jose on Saturday 21 May. The screening will be followed by a live recording of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Tickets should be purchased in advance, right here!

Thanks!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #44

This week, Dean works with exotic animals and Phil returns from Cinequest.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #43

This week, Dean and Phil discuss Robert Downey Jr’s gravitas. Phil says “gravitas”. Over and over. Plus more trailer talk. Let’s call it “trailer trash”. Dean brings us up to date on his recent stint on the Queen Mary, plus Dean’s home address and Phil’s blood pressure may be revealed. Phil, who previously represented “a crisis in cinema”, gets his first positive hometown review…or does he? Don’t worry Phil, everybody hates on the hometown boy when they leave!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
