Chillpak Hollywood Hour #438

One of our longest shows ever begins with the latest American gun massacre and ends with an Easter egg where “the owls are not what they seem”. In between, your friends in podcasting tackle the latest developments in the “Midnight Rider” lawsuit, the exploitation of extras on the set of HBO’s “Westworld” series, the art of being a “background performer”, and reviews of two new cinematic releases, one recently Oscar-nominated documentary, a female-directed science fiction film (“everyone should see”) and a sci-fi treasure of the 1970′s. All that plus Dean explains whether or not there is a secret, “7th episode” of the forthcoming revivial of “The X-Files” and Phil weighs in on two new television series.

We promise we will try to keep things a bit shorter in the future because too much of anything, even YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, is not necessarily a good thing!

For now, pack a lunch, buckle up and enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #393

The bad news? Your friends in podcasting don’t get to half of what they wanted to discuss (including discussions of at least a half dozen movies),

The good news? What Dean and Phil do discuss is free-wheeling, eclectic, hilarious and insightful … Charles Manson finds love, Bill Cosby has problems, Betty White is looking for work, “Luther” is coming stateside, a lawsuit is settled, Ken Takakura and Mike Nichols are remembered, Gillian Anderson is back in “The Fall”, Phil might be acting in a play, and we’re all learning a little something about Christianity and baseball in Japan.

It’s Happy Birthday to Phil Leirness.

It’s Happy Thanksgiving to the USA.

It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #390

Buckle up, this one is a wild ride, boasting many questions …

Is Dean living in nominal time? Is there going to be a “new” film from Orson Welles? Did Phil join the Blue Man Group? What is feminism? What’s the deal with Dr. Who? What’s with the graphic sex in Blue is the Warmest Color? Should Interstellar really be called Inter(mittently) Stellar? Why might the Marvel films might outperform the DC films? What was revealed in the Sarah Jones/Midnight Rider lawsuit? Will Jennifer Aniston be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar this year?

All that is discussed, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s new gigs and a Live Event of the Week featuring a CHH family member.

Finally, make sure to check out the incredibly moving Project Unbreakable and the incredibly cool “Urban Legends” Halloween short film Lily Holleman stars in.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #376

Your friends in podcasting pick up right where they left off at the end of last week’s (very popular) installment. In fact, it’s as if they just kept talking … This week, the discussion touched on the return of Nikki Finke, the charges brought against the Midnight Rider filmmakers, The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the shot down Malaysia Airlines flight, Schrodinger’s Cat, our cognitive awareness of a 3-dimensional structure, and much, much more.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #367

Your friends in podcasting are back from trips to Texas, Cleveland, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and deep space (!) and they are doing what they do best: Turning a world gone wild into fodder for informative, insightful, irreverent and inspiring conversation.

Topics this week include: The Granbury Paranormal Expo, what really happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, climate change, gun violence, the Sarah Jones lawsuit, a lawsuit involving your friends in podcasting, the arrest of Batman, the death of an Oscar-winning cinematographer, the suicide of an Oscar-winning documentarian, Sci-Fest 2014 and Baltimore’s Visionary Art Museum.

All that, PLUS Phil opens the show with a very personal story about how the world just keeps getting smaller and closes the show with a plea to support independent film, talent and diversity by clicking HERE.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #363

Next week is the 7th Anniversary of the free weekly podcast that has been changing the way people listen to the internet since May of 2007.

Please help your friends in podcasting prepare their anniversary show by writing to them with your favorite Chillpak Hollywood memories.

Also, if you’re going to be in the Los Angeles area and are interested in discount tickets to Sci-Fest (where you can see Dean on-stage in Ray Bradbury’s “Kaleidoscope”), please write and let us know.

Finally, please help Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness complete their new film by visiting The Lady Killers, watching the official trailer, reading about the film, making a donation (if possible) and spreading the word!

Now enjoy this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour …

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #357

You’ll have to forgive us, with some new equipment, there’s something just not quite right about the music and segment stings on today’s otherwise top-notch show, but we’ll get it figured out for next week!

Of course, if it’s artful audio mixing that brings you to this show, you are historically in the wrong place!

It’s the art of conversation that keeps people coming back for more of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour week after week …

This week’s often irreverent, frequently informative and occasionally inspiring conversation is all about earthquakes, snakes in Ireland, missing planes from Malaysia, brand new television series on Amazon Prime, lessons filmmakers can learn from Peter Bogdanovich’s first film, controversies surrounding Sarah Jones death and John Travolta’s recent Oscar appearance, “Hannibal”, “Broadchurch”, “Portlandia”, “True Detective” and your friends in podcasting start it all off by remembering a good friend (of “Truth”) who died this weekend.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #356

A day late, but now available on Stitcher (you can get the Stitcher app and rate and review the show!), your friends in podcasting are back at it, battling back the forces of darkness with their lethal wits and their irreverent bon mots!

Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness discuss the snubs in the recent Oscars’ “In Memorium” tribute, Dean’s upcoming live comedy shows, MesoAmerican art, Chris Carter’s new show, their ongoing search for the TRUTH and much, much more …

It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, now on Stitcher!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #354

Forgive us if the sound quality of this week’s show is a little shaky … With missed flights and broken laptops, it’s amazing we managed to get a new show produced this week at all (and closer to our usual Monday release than the past two weeks).

From the stumbling opening, to the less than elegant closing, your friends in podcasting are flying without a net this week. There’s no chance to edit or smooth out the audio levels.

The conversation is classic Chillpak, however, touching on topics ranging from the death of Harold Ramis to the careers of Boris Karloff and Preston Sturgess, from deadly on-set accidents to the difference between “victims” and survivors”, from Dean’s road trip with Billy Dee Williams to how the Oscar nominees for best picture rate in terms of their roles for women.

Don’t delay, enjoy YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour NOW!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
