Chillpak Hollywood Hour #586

This week, we promise that Dean will NOT spend half the show working on home construction while on the microphone! He will regale us with tales of his final iprov comedy performance in Sydney prior to his move back to the USA. Then, your friends in podcasting discuss “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”, NBC’s “The Good Place”, Patrick Stewart’s return to “Star Trek”, Q Anon (no, not the villain in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” – at least we think not) before turning their attention to movies. Such releases as Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp the elephant documentary Love & Bananas, the coming-of-age Eighth Grade, the sci-fi mind-bender The Endless, the award hopeful Leave No Trace and the early Denis Villeneuve films Incendies and Enemy all get discussed.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #582

After last week’s outstanding episode, your friends in podcasting keep the movie talk going as they remember Robby Muller, the late great “Master of Light”, perhaps the most important cinematographer in independent cinema over the final 30 years of the 20th Century. Dean and Phil then discuss what it means on those rare occasions when critics like a movie far more than audiences do. It’s common for audiences to like a film more than critics, but who is to blame when critics love a film and audiences HATE it? Your friends in podcasting answer that question before shifting gears into an incredible “Live Event of the Week”. They welcome special guest Zac Greenberg, the composer of The Bradbury Tattoos: A Rock Opera, which premieres this month in Cincinnati courtesy of a National Endowment of the Arts Grant. Based on four Ray Bradbury short stories from “The Illustrated Man (including “Kaleidoscope”, which Dean once starred in on-stage in Los Angeles as part of Sci-Fest L.A.), this sci-fi spectacular promises to be a production like no other! Oh, and make sure to stay tuned following the closing music and announcements for a sensational Easter egg!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #566

On this week’s episode, we’ve got movies, including a discussion of some classic mysteries, and a brand new sci-fi masterpiece that sadly shows the sorry state of movie distribution! We have lawsuits, including one nasty battle between the US Department of Justice and media conglomerate AT&T, and a very different case about set safety on independent films in Canada! We have fond farewells to two true icons, one a scientific giant, the other a fashion legend! We have a show biz scandal featuring the august Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences! All that plus we tease huge life-changing news for Dean Haglund!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #565

In addition to the latest updates on Dean’s post-surgery recovery and the miracle of Fuzz Aldrin, as well as the de rigueur rounds of “Celebrity Deaths” (where Dean will get quizzed about a pioneering comedian, a legendary sci-fi writer, an award-winning horror writer, two singers and an iconic television actor), there is a lot of movie news for your friends in podcasting to discuss. Dean and Phil analyze the Oscars, including the winners, the host, the politics, the ratings and the ensuing and on-going conversation about diversity and inclusion in the motion picture workplace. They will also discuss a handful of films, including one of the Best Foreign Language Film nominees, the 1974 winner for “Best Actor”, an early Horror classic (also an Oscar winner for “Best Actor), and the supposed “greatest romantic comedy of all time”. Oh, and if you have yet to enjoy last week’s show, you are missing out on one of our funniest hours EVER!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #559

Dean is having surgery this week and Phil’s cat, Fuzz Aldrin, continues her brave recovery. Because some of you asked for updates on these matters, your friends in podcasting begin this week’s epic installment with fascinating and inspiring stories pertaining to them. Then, it’s all about movies …

The critics groups have all awarded their favorites. The professional guilds and unions have honored theirs. Discover cinematic gems and regale in hilarious, irreverent, and occasionally insightful bickering.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #539

This week, your friends in podcasting bring you a truly epic 70 minute installment that opens with Phil holding court about spoiler alerts, time travel, dream logic and more as he discusses both “The Prisoner” on its 50th Anniversary and “Twin Peaks: The Return” in the wake of its brilliant finale. He even explains “what happened to Audrey!” Then Dean joins Phil to update us on the Sydney Hilarium, his pop-up comedy club, and to celebrate the lives of a former child star, the creator of McGruff the Crime Dog, one-half of Steely Dan, and the “gentle giant” of country music. After that, they follow up on their previous discussion about monuments and statues thanks to an email from a listener like you (well, maybe not EXACTLY like you, unless you created the normal theme song for the show). Then, a fascinating, possible “Lawsuit of the Week” surrounding a reboot of the 1980′s television series “Amazing Stories” comes our way courtesy of frequent contributor Stephen Fowler. Finally, Dean and Phil roll up their sleeves and dig into more than a dozen movies, including comedies from the 1930′s, sci-fi films from the 1960′s and five 2017 releases.

Great TV, many genres of films, musical surprises, and several big laughs. In other words, YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #529

It’s been a while since your friends in podcasting dedicated a whole episode to discussing movies and TV …

Dean and Phil begin the festivities with an excellent email from a listener like you (yes, YOU) that follows up on last week’s discussion of both Adam West and Roger Moore. From there, they turn their attention to current television – Season 4 of “The Blacklist”, Season 6 of “Veep” – and Season 1 of “Twin Peaks”. Then, the final half of the show is dedicated to movies and movie distribution, with such current releases as Alien: Covenant, OKJA, Wonder Woman, The Beguiled and Baby Driver, and recent sci-fi films Passengers, Arrival and Dr. Strange getting discussed. What also gets analyzed (and ranted about) is the need for unique distribution methodologies for each film being released.

Dean will weigh in on the forthcoming “X-Files” audible book as well as the recent renewal of The X-Files for a ten episode season 11 on Fox, plus what role The Lone Gunmen play in each! Finally, Dean and Phil remember a beloved character actor, a long-time sitcom star, a legendary “super-agent” to the stars and a chart-topping singer perhaps more famous for fathering a future Oscar-winning actor in “Celebrity Deaths”.
