Chillpak Hollywood Hour #522

It’s the first Top Ten show of year 11! After years of celebrating Live Events of the Week, your friends in podcasting count down their Top Ten All-Time Favorite Live Events, starting with a healthy and diverse list of “honorable mentions” … Musical concerts are NOT included. Those must be saved for another show! THIS episode is a fun and fascinating look into what your friends in podcasting find memorable and into what inspires them.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #397

Before taking off on their holiday travels, your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness are doing what they do best: Making sense of a (show business) world gone wild …

They weigh in on the cyber terrorist attack against Sony. They celebrate a milestone achieved by one of their favorite shows. They discuss live events starring the likes of Angela Lansbury and Jeff Goldblum. They dish on an animation price-fixing lawsuit, the decades-long Roman Polanski judicial drama and the idea of actors owning a copyright interest in their performances. They discuss casting news that has them hopeful and casting news that gives them pause. They champion three outstanding films from earlier this year that you probably missed that are available now on home video and they warn you against an award-hopeful Christmas Day opener that is without a doubt one of the worst films of the year. All that PLUS much more as they wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

All together now (singing): “We need a little Chillpak, right this very minute!”

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #350

Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness follow up on last week’s hilarious discussion about “The Price is Right” by discussing Lily Holleman’s appearance on that television institution, analyzing how she won, what she won and what it means tax-wise for people who do win on game shows.

Then, Dean and Phil wrap up their ongoing discussion of the eight ways our brains “lie” to us every day by discussing stereotyping.

Phil takes time to remember a “friend of the family” who died this month, a self-made man who went from 14 year-old dropout to hairdresser to successful producer.

Finally, next week is our annual look at the top films of the previous year, so Dean and Phil have been watching a ton of movies and this leads to a discussion of The Hunt, HBO’s True Detective and Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” with Joss Whedon receiving both a tip of the cap AND a stern wag of the finger!

All that, plus Lawrence Welk!?

Your friends in podcasting run out of time before they get the chance to talk about Sci-Fest, but they hope you will click on the link to learn about this exciting, month-long, live theatre festival in which they will be participating!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #332

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #67

The name of the show may be changing soon, but Dean and Phil really put the “Hollywood” in From the Heart of Hollywood in this week’s show as they broadcast poolside, high atop downtown Los Angeles on the roof of the art deco masterpiece that is the Eastern Columbia Building.

Dean “name-drops” like crazy, which will no doubt continue next week after he returns from Dragon-Con. Dean also reveals some startling changes on the horizon for his live performances. You can always check out the latest news at Dean’s official site.

Meanwhile, Phil reveals that he’s living the life of a Hollywood hermit – writing, writing, and more writing – when he’s not too busy attending concerts by The Walkmen, movies by Woody Allen and Shakespeare in the park.

So, grab a towel, bring your tanning butter and join us poolside! And don’t forget to send in your ideas for the new title of this podcast!

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
