Chillpak Hollywood Hour #514

Late night television comedy, some current television dramas, the death of Chuck Berry, a potential writer’s strike, Martin Scorsese’s next movie, Hugh Jackman’s next acting role, Alfred Hitchcock and much, much more … And don’t forget, if you are in the Los Angeles area on Sunday 26 March, you can attend the Official World Premiere of Dean and Phil’s new movie, THE LADY KILLERS!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #511

The 7th of ten planned “Top Ten” shows your friends in podcasting are doing to commemorate Year 10 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is one of their most personal and unusual shows of the year … Back when they were shooting their epic documentary The Truth Is Out There, someone asked Phil whether he and Dean do the podcast to promote their movies, or whether they make movies to promote their podcast. Phil found amusing the assumption that promotion MUST be a part of what he and Dean were doing and yet found the question an interesting one. Almost six years since the World Premiere of that film, which is truly equal parts comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, it is apparent that what motivates them to keep making films is the same thing that motivates them to keep doing this show: A desire to engage in conversation. Join them this week, as they take a look back at “TRUTH” and count down the top ten things that strike them now when watching their prescient, disturbing, moving and truly funny documentary. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you will find the discussion about it inspiring, insightful, irreverent. It is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #503

Happy 2017, Everyone! Your friends in podcasting are prepared to get the New Year off to a great start with their traditional “New Year’s Resolutions” show … Every year, Dean and Phil provide episodes full of the insightful, the inspiring and the irreverent. Annually, one such episode you can count on for all of this is their traditional New Year’s Resolutions show. First, they hold their feet to the fire as they look back at the resolutions they made to start 2016 and then, they set their intentions for 2017. It’s bound to be a definite crowd-pleaser!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #501

Following up on last week’s milestone (and VERY bizarre) episode #500 (where Dean and Phil took a road trip to a cemetery) is no easy task, and this week’s show proved to be torture in its production, so please forgive the (slight) delay in getting it to you and the (frequent) technical problems during it. This being 2016, there are, of course, new “Celebrity Deaths” to discuss. There is also an email from a listener like you (yes, YOU!). There is the return of “What We Are Reading”, several “Live Events of the Week” and New Year’s Eve plans get compared. Then, the subjects of year end critics’ lists and award nominations get discussed and a handful of new and recent films get analyzed, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Patriots Day, Lion, and Lights Out. Is it possible that the best film of the year is also one of the best TV shows of the year? Find out NOW on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #496

Longtime listeners know this about their friends in podcasting: They are often at their best making sense of a world seemingly gone wild, and boy, does that seem to be needed this week! No sooner had they finished recording this show than news came in about the death of musical great Leon Russell, so Phil opens the show with a tribute to him and some thoughts about the election before joining with Dean for remembrances of another legendary musician (and poet and artist) as well as an actor who once embodied the epitome of suave cool. A few different and worthwhile films get celebrated, including Loving, the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the modern western gets discussed. The Presidential election results and how those results might serve by leading to positive change get analyzed in depth. Often YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour proves to be irreverent, informative and insightful. This week it is downright nourishing.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #487

How did Dean decide to follow-up on last week’s outstanding episode where he and Phil counted down their Top Ten Horror Films of All Time? By showing up in Los Angeles and dropping in on Phil! They had much to discuss face to face, like what is Zombocom, what did Dean think of “The Jungle Book”, what was the improv show Dean performed in Winnipeg with Gary Jones and how come Phil never knew that K-tel also hails from Winnipeg? Hearst Castle is discussed and the towns of Harmony (population 17) and San Juan Batista (site of Hitchcock’s “Vertigo”) are celebrated. Phil follows up on one of Dean’s Top Ten Horror Films and shares news about a TV series based on a film they BOTH had on their lists. More about “Citizen Kane” and “The Maltese Falcon” are remembered in the shadow of those films’ 75th Anniversaries, and a letter from a listener like you (yes, YOU!) is shared. All that plus a little bit more!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #474

A beloved, Emmy-winning comedian launches a new podcast in “Live Event of the Week”, one of the greatest playwrights of all time is remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”, Phil questions Dean about his Australian TV interview of Chris Carter, Phil reveals more details of his recent travels, Dean and Phil discuss “what they’re reading”, answer a letter from a listener, dish on a recent cinematic releases, talk about their a couple of horror films, and more. All this week on a brand new episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #473

After 2 weeks with special guests, your friends in podcasting are back with an hour of freewheeling, spirited, irreverent and insightful conversation. Topics include the death of Muhammad Ali, a book about the purpose of corporations, a great essay (by a brilliant writer) in defense of David Lynch (and indirectly of Dean and Phil’s movie “The Lady Killers”). The first month of the summer movie season is analyzed, a great new documentary film about stand-up comedy is discussed, Dean’ updates his fine art and comedy endeavors, and Phil describes his trip to Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi as well as his exploration of Route 66.

Get your kicks!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #457

This week’s show starts with “Celebrity Deaths” as a Supreme Court Justice and a legendary explorer of both inner and outer space are remembered. Then, the return of The Lone Gunmen in episode 5 of The X-Files revival is previewed. And then, it is safe to assume that more independent films are discussed than on any prior episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour! A special guest joins your friends in podcasting to file a report on the recent happenings at the Sundance Film Festival and Dean and Phil go through all the Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees and Phil completes his ballot for these indie film “Oscars” on the air.

About the show
Dean Haglund, the actor, improv comic and inventor (best known as “Langly,” one of the three computer-hacking geeks on “The X-Files” and their spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen”) engages in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation with his co-host and producing partner, independent filmmaker and certified violence prevention specialist Phil Leirness in the production offices of Rational Exuberance. Warning: Dean and Phil's usually hilarious and frequently inspiring discussions are habit-forming, so please, enjoy responsibly!
