The 7th of ten planned “Top Ten” shows your friends in podcasting are doing to commemorate Year 10 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is one of their most personal and unusual shows of the year … Back when they were shooting their epic documentary The Truth Is Out There, someone asked Phil whether he and Dean do the podcast to promote their movies, or whether they make movies to promote their podcast. Phil found amusing the assumption that promotion MUST be a part of what he and Dean were doing and yet found the question an interesting one. Almost six years since the World Premiere of that film, which is truly equal parts comedy, consciousness and conspiracy, it is apparent that what motivates them to keep making films is the same thing that motivates them to keep doing this show: A desire to engage in conversation. Join them this week, as they take a look back at “TRUTH” and count down the top ten things that strike them now when watching their prescient, disturbing, moving and truly funny documentary. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you will find the discussion about it inspiring, insightful, irreverent. It is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!
Right before exploring the Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave in North Western New Mexico, Phil Leirness touches base with Dean Haglund (who’s down under, of course), before Dean welcomes a special guest, Steven-Elliot Altman. Steven-Elliot is an author, graphic novelist, producer, screenwriter and video game writer-director whose latest game is based on the television series Ancient Aliens.
Aliens, UFOs, Sherlock Holmes, sci-fi novels and more on this week’s brand new episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!
For six and a half years, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness have been changing the way people listen to the internet. That’s one of the reasons they’ve been dubbed “Podcast Royalty”.

Last week’s show was recorded live at the Los Angeles Podfest. This week, your friends in podcasting conduct a post-mortem and get into a discussion of how physically unhealthy so many comedians seem to be, especially in light of Craig Robinson’s latest drug arrest.
In “Celebrity Deaths”, Dean and Phil will remember two giants of Italian Cinema and a pioneer in talent representation.
Acclaimed international filmmaker Jim Sheridan became the latest the declare the death of Hollywood movies and Dean and Phil will analyze his statements, perhaps in context with three notable 2013 releases – Mud, Oblivion and Captain Phillips. Who knows, Dean might even have finally caught up with the juggernaut that is this season’s “ultimate thrill ride”, Gravity.
And speaking of thrill rides, a future “Lawsuit of the Week” may just involve what happened to 10 people on a roller coaster in Orlando, Florida …
All that, and much much more, including the possibility that Christopher Columbus saw a UFO!
This week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!
Your friends in podcasting appeared at Paranoia Con this weekend, where they showed their film The Truth Is Out There and then recorded this show in front of a live audience.

It is, however, one of our very best shows!
That it’s President’s Day in the U.S. leads to a discussion of presidential UFO lore, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball and Merv Griffin. The Chillpak Hollywood Live Event of the Week leads to a discussion of Phil’s admiration for an actress he had never before seen, the best director working in theatre today, and the way storytellers strengths in one medium can serve as weakness in another.
All that, plus TWO Chillpak Hollywood Lawsuits of the Week (the one involving Chris Pine, “Captain Kirk” from JJ Abrams’ re-booth of Star Trek is a paticular hoot.
Your friends in podcasting definitely brought their “A” game. We hope you will enjoy it enough to share it with others …
Hilarious and informative, show and business, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. The future of the internet, the future of freedom of speech, the future of movies, the future of Dean Haglund as a new American citizen are all discussed. Phil discusses the past, focusing on his fascination with dreams and the dream language of films, as well as on several remakes of classic films in the development stage, as well as some cinematic “lost” treasures that might be coming to a screen near you. Something that WILL be coming to a screen near you is The Truth Is Out There, which has a sneak preview screening on Saturday 26 February in San Leandro, California as part of UFO X Fest. Phil just got back from Park City, Utah, and he reports on all the Sundance and Slamdance activities. He and Dean also finish recapping their long voyage to the Pacific Northwest, with some particularly spooky stories about the area in and surrounding Yakima, Washington. This week, they’re on the road to Texas, but before they depart, they’ll be conducting an interview with the legendary Eric Roberts. They talk about this and weigh in on a wide variety of topics including Conan O’Brien’s last “Tonight Show”, the Producers Guild of America Awards, the Golden Globes, Avatar and what they’re reading … They even discuss complaints they’ve received about the audio quality of recent shows while actually having audio problems! It’s all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
Back in January of 2010, your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, were in Canada shooting footage for TWO projects: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE (a documentary about the world of conspiracy) and HELL GIGS (about a return to Dean’s roots as a comic).
While in Vancouver, they got together with Dean’s good friends Bruce Harwood and Tom Braidwood to record this week’s show. For those listeners who were not fans of The X-Files, Dean, Bruce and Tom played (respectively) Richard “Ringo” Langly, John Fitzgerald Byers and Melvin Frohike. Collectively, those characters are known to millions of fans the world over as “The Lone Gunmen”, conspiracy theorists, computer hackers, government watchdogs and publishers of The Magic Bullet newsletter, who aided agents Mulder and Scully through nine years of investigations and who were featured in their very own spin-off series.
This episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour has become a classic. And it’s available again for the first time in almost two years.
