Chillpak Hollywood Hour #502

Let your friends in podcasting put a little Ho Ho Ho into your holidays (and honestly, we have no idea what this even means) with their fourth “Top Ten” show of this, year ten of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour … This week, Dean and Phil count down their Top Ten (episodic) Television Shows of 2016, and this year their countdown comes replete with caveats! Who doesn’t love a good caveat during the holiday season?

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #493

After last week’s special “Top Ten” show, your friends in podcasting have a lot to discusss! From Dean’s appearances in Melbourne to Phil’s attendance at a historic, Halloween-themed Victorian event, from revisiting their show counting down the all-time great horror films to following up on last week’s outstanding show that focused on westerns, from previewing future “top ten” shows to trying to make sense of the USA election season, Dean and Phil will roll up their sleeves and get it all done! Plus, they will discuss at least three television series AND more than a dozen films currently in development. It’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #491

A magazine came out this week with an article in it on the special episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour where Dean and Phil counted down their Top Ten Horror Films of All Time (Chillpak Hollywood Hour #486). Because of that, and because of the positive response we received from listeners like YOU, your friends in podcasting are preparing a similar theme show where they count down their Top Ten Westerns of All Time, and on this week’s show, they share some of the research they’ve been doing, celebrating a couple great character actors and getting into a discussion of HBO’s “Westworld” along the way. For the most part, the show focuses on new movies, like Clint Eastwood’s Sully, Mira Nair’s Queen of Katwe, Mick Jackson’s Denial, Christopher Guest’s Mascots, though the gents also preview upcoming films starring Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch. They also finally tackle the merits of Child 44, a period drama starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman that a listener wrote about a few weeks back. All that, plus the latest developments in the Star Trek fan film lawsuit in the return of “Lawsuit of the Week.” Wherever good podcasts can be found!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #438

One of our longest shows ever begins with the latest American gun massacre and ends with an Easter egg where “the owls are not what they seem”. In between, your friends in podcasting tackle the latest developments in the “Midnight Rider” lawsuit, the exploitation of extras on the set of HBO’s “Westworld” series, the art of being a “background performer”, and reviews of two new cinematic releases, one recently Oscar-nominated documentary, a female-directed science fiction film (“everyone should see”) and a sci-fi treasure of the 1970′s. All that plus Dean explains whether or not there is a secret, “7th episode” of the forthcoming revivial of “The X-Files” and Phil weighs in on two new television series.

We promise we will try to keep things a bit shorter in the future because too much of anything, even YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, is not necessarily a good thing!

For now, pack a lunch, buckle up and enjoy!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #431

In the blog post on Facebook previewing this week’s show, your friends in podcasting promised to discuss if Australia is trying to kill Dean Haglund, all the things you should’t do on a road trip, and the unparalleled legacy of the biggest movie star of all time, Humphrey Bogart. They promised to explain why the funniest film from the comedy filmmaking team of Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker (“the makers of the original Airplane” – no, not the Wright Brothers) was also their least successful. They promised to tackle the essential spy films of all time and what those films have to say about the times in which they were made. All that plus the latest Tom Cruise movie news, Bill Murray returning to Ghostbusters, Christopher Guest returning to making mockumentaries, and the reports that Gene Wilder might come out of retirement. And for those whose interest runs more towards episodic television, Dean and Phil were planning for you, too, with a question for Dean about Australian shows, with Phil weighing in on “Wayward Pines” and the continued cultural significance of “The Prisoner”, with the latest news surrounding the Wachowskis’ “Sense8″, HBO’s “Westworld”, HBO’s “Deadwood”, HBO’s “Sesame Street” (yes, you read that right) and, of course, the revival of “The X-Files”.

Not only did your friends in podasting get to all of it, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness even managed to remember Julian Bond, discuss the spooky happenings on Mars and some legendary silent films. Dean and Phil, changing the way you listen to the internet, by giving til it hurts!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour #419

Dean Haglund is moving from Los Angeles to Australia. Though that does not mean YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is coming to an end, it does mean that we will be changing the way we “change the way you listen to the internet.” So, join us in saying “Bon Voyage” to Dean with this special episode …

It starts with a letter from long-time listener Stephen D. Folwer about the meaning of “langley”, it continues with a tribute to both Dean and the recently-retired David Letterman: “The Top Ten Questions Our Listeners Have for Dean”. After that, there are “Live Events of the Week”, a discussion of J.M.W. Turner’s painting, an analysis of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ex Machina, and an appreciation for film distribution company A24. Finally, the show concludes with Phil’s list: “The Top Ten Things I will Miss About Dean Haglund”. All that, plus special guests and special gifts.
